expect me to pick up posting once again, though not as frequently, b/c i don't have internet at home, and no cable(hence not as much on what i feel about nba/nfl) and feel bad everytime i lug the laptop upstairs so i can mooch.
all things said and done, my main thinking as of right now is on the right. now just gotta hope that means i graduated. still seeing if there's some place on the ucdavis website i can find actual confirmation that i graduated.
anyways, i still feel like doing that 1-chapter-of-a-novel-per-2-weeks thing, so look forward to the 1st 2 chapters or so in about 2-3 weeks or so.
can't really say more right now; library's going to close in about 15 minutes and i still have a few errands i need to do on the web; i spent much of late afternoon praying before checking my grades, hence the quick post.

stupid nba.com clamping down so i can't use SDP to download...
anyways, friday's top 10 nba countdown was really good regardless of some teams i didn't want to win, winning; just wished i could actually save it; take a look if you have time:
included:
sarunas jasikevicus' no look to a cutting al harrington
rudy gay slashing and tomahawking for the and1
kobe juking then coming around yao for the dunk
my favorite rookie tyrus thomas coming from the side to swat michael redd's layup into the crowd
amare driving, juking biedrins for a missed swat, then hammers it down
---
maybe ben wallace reads my blog... he got 27 and 3 this time. alright, now go for 20 and 10.

Remember when you used to have to write 1-2 page stories for schoolwork in elementary school?
Made me think how long that was ago, and how it actually might be kinda fun to try creating another blogger site, then writing out a fictional novel, putting in about 1 chapter every 2 weeks, until the end of the year.
The more i think about it, the more intriguing it actually sounds. I really wanna try a hand at this.
Too bad I have no really revolutionary ideas for a story. And I have no intention of making it a sci-fi; it may have fictional things in it, but I want it to sorta be grounded in modern day type stuff. Basically, the furthest I would go for sci-fi would be something akin to Terminator.
---
Both TNT games i think disappointed me; injuries prevented me from seeing the full capabilities of the Hornets and the Magic. What a shame... Dwight didn't even show up.
But i did hear great things about the warriors game; baron davis is da man.

i was WONDERING when ben wallace was finally going to get 20 rebounds...
ykno, i personally believed that the way that ben wallace plays against adversity and the way he felt he was unvalued at detroit this season, that he should be averaging 20 and 5 each game this season just to show what the pistons gave up. kinda like when shaq went to the heat.
well, this is the 1st game. granted it was against the sonics, but let's see if he does this again.

harold mcgee's online journal
i had to read this guy's book for FST1 and FST10. should make a good read for you in your spare time.

edit: i was bored looking at my notes, and thought, ykno, with the shortage of ppl who know taiwanese, let alone teach it, this is the internet, so there's gotta be something...
check this out
if there's two, maybe 3 foreign languages i would like to be fluent in, it'd be: japanese, taiwanese, mandarin. in that order. i know a lot of taiwanese, but i really still believe it's all basic. and i couldn't recognize a single chicken scratch of it on paper. japanese is kinda cause i do end up looking at a buncha websites in japanese that i just don't know how to navigate. and you can't just throw anything into babelfish; if a website supports flash, then you're screwed.

espn.com nba message boards are have so many kobe/laker topics, it's annoying.
not that i frequently post in msg boards anyhow; used to a lot in high school, but now i just troll. if you can't add anything new to the discussion, you might as well not say anything at all, ykno? i figure most of the ppl who post a LOT on message boards tend to be attention whores. especially the ones who try to start topics rediculously fast.

i love sony, more than nintendo and microsoft, but this conference is ass...
FLIP THIS CRAB OVER AND ATTACK ITS WEAK POINT FOR MASSIVE DAMAGE!
the only system i would buy in the immediate future would be a ps TWO.
and don't expect me to buy a ps3 until the price drops like mad. (and vf5 and tekken 6 both come out)
i was never into the newest games anyways... i should be fine...
guy playing the dulcimer...
make sure you watch the whole video; he starts out slow at the beginning, then goes absolutely quick and crazy from about the middle to the end... incredible musician.

i realize that anime-wise/cartoon-wise, i really like the girl who is initially good, but turns out to be evil. how she becomes evil and the antagonist is of no real concern; brainwashing, slippery slope, etc. dunno why, it's just that i've always liked that.
edit: i probably like this because it makes the girl seem more tougher. seems like in a lot of those cases, the cartoonists end up making the girl seem tough, but it's not a guy type of tough. more like a defiant mockingly tough, where the girl is toying around with the guy antagonist or what not. just my two cents.

i knew i wasn't the only person with my name. rt is a pretty common full name for male asians i think. i think i MIGHT be the only one with no middle name though.
fyi out of curiousity, i tried this with some other ppl; bob has very low count, sam's pretty commonplace, john(in mountain view fellowship) is laughable(just try it and you'll see why i thought it was funny), jeremy's though blew me out of the water. you should try torrence's as well; made me laugh. i dunno how they get these numbers though. torrence's should NOT say that.
and i also tried some common superhero/video game names just for the rofl factor:
terry mcguinness
bruce wayne
clark kent
tim drake
nathan summers
strider hiryu
ryu hoshi
ken masters

seems to be some interactive series of shockwave files which are anime-style but have breaks in between where you can play. (go to the story link)
i still wish i knew how to read japanese; i can't understand a friggin thing that's going on.

10 things you may or may not know about me(b/c i'm bored of filling out my written final):
1) i'm not a light sleeper nor a heavy sleeper, but that doesn't mean i'm normal; when at a social sleepover or something like that where i'm not sleeping by myself, i take forever to fall asleep if there's any noise, and take forever to wake up and get up. i guess that also brings up the point that:
2) i'm not a morning person, but i try my ass off trying to be; i hate staying up late, but just can't pull myself out of bed in the morning.
3) i chew gum to stay awake, as opposed to drinking coffee. (chewing gum actually has a TON of health benefits; in addition to helping clean your teeth, it can help relieve muscle tension, helps you stay awake if you're constantly chewing, also can help you concentrate better at times, and keeps your mouth and throat somewhat moistened, and not dry; try looking up the facts sometime; you'd be surprised) i keep 2-3 packs of gum in my backpack(both to stay awake and to quickly clean my teeth after meals on campus), and at least 1 pack in the car(to prevent drowsiness). (fyi, if you're stuck on which flavor to buy, cinnamon is always the right way; it's not always my favorite flavor, but its sharpness usually never gets too dull, and tends to last long)
4) i pace the room more times than most people would do, often deep in thought(maybe that's why i'm never fat)
5) i seem to really like collecting stuff. this can be bad when i'm window shopping sometimes. that doesn't necessarily mean i'm a compulsive shopper. just means that sometimes if i want to get something, if it's in a line of things, i might want to get the other respective things as well for completeness' sake.
6) i'm a sucker for nature; love how the environment looks a lot, love dem animals(even animals and creatures i used to be afraid of like spiders i have huge amount of respect for).
7) i might be the only person in the world that actually eats cereal and milk separate. a lotta times, i'm not even eating a bite of cereal and immediately taking a sip of milk. i finish the cereal, then go to the fridge and pull out the milk and the glass.
8) while a southpaw, my right hand is probably stronger than my left; there's been a couple of things i could probably carry better in my right hand than my left. i do eat w/chopsticks and write with my left hand though.
9) i tend to scratch my head at the very top of my head(as opposed to the back), where the slight amount of scalp is most visible.
10) my pinkies look severely bent in, but there's nothing wrong with them; it's a genetic trait i inherited from my mother. ppl always give disgusted looks when they see my pinkies up close(IF they do; they rarely do)

it's back...
picks of the week:
1. bible verse:
hebrews 5:11-14; i remember it from reading the bible last night, and don't have it memorized yet, but it's an awesome verse; talks about the lack a spiritual maturity amongst christians. specifically, how you should be eating solid food now, but still need to be fed with milk. and that- oh why don't i just post it here:
"Of whom we have many things to say, and hard to be uttered, seeing ye are dull of hearing.
For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat.
For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe.
But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil."
2. food:
not really thinking of any food at the moment; my throat is dry.
3. music equip:
give me about 2-3 weeks, and you might see me actually start to fill this section again. i'm still thinking of getting something that enables me to hear myself when playing the guitar but still have an output, but i'm not thinking about it at the moment.
that being said, i DO need new earbuds; my old ones are broke; officially broke. i can't hear anything out of the right earbud. prob gonna hit fry's once i get back from school.
4. place:
i have a feeling i'm going to be spending a lot of time at the library next week. and the arboretum. i'm thinking of just getting a disposable camera and going over to the arboretum and snapping a lot of photos next week. the place is so serene sometimes, and i can remember how many times in the past i ventured there to think and put myself at ease.
5. song:
tim hughes - jesus you alone; try looking it up on napster. not the one where tim hughes, matt redman, et al are on it. just tim hughes. and oh yeah, matt redman - you never let go is also pretty good.
6. sports game:
i'm tempted to gush over pistons at mavs, or sixers at chicago, but i thought for a change of pace, i'd think about niners at saints on sunday. yes, niners lost badly. but i was in awe of reggie bush(mixed in with feelings of glumness how niners could be so weak on defense). the guy created so many openings for himself, it was insane.
7. thought:
this is it; one week of studying hard, and i'll be done. and it needs to be HARD studying. oh, to only not screw up and slack and get distracted! and i'm honoring my mom's requests to not drive home right when i'm done, b/c i'll be done at 6:30 on saturday. so i'll come home during sunday morning, probably after going to church. if the weather's ok, i MIGHT play ball.
8. video game:
i think you'll enjoy this cvs2 match; nakanishi is one of my favorite cvs2 players, since he plays guile and ken(sometimes ryu as well)(misses a few oppurtunities i thought to close the match, but overall good match to watch): yamazaki93 vs nakanishi
9. other(product):
earbuds, and a usb drive. i'll probably get a license plate that says "uc davis alumni" next week.
10.other(various):
charles barkley said this on tnt: "if dwight howard is not leading the all-star ballot, there is a travesty" or something like that. i'm biased towards him, but as of right now, i have to concur.

so psyched that magic will play against bobcats next thursday. will not miss it.
---
rasheed's mouth antics are way too funny.
i think what impressed me for a few seconds last night watching the pistons play against the mavs was(in contrast to the suns' tempo), the pistons got a fast break oppurtunity and were pushing it up the court, but then chauncey saw that the mavs were able to get themselves back in time, and instead of forcing things, stopped, backed up and called a play. the tnt commentators alluded it to a good quarterback who doesn't see what he wants, but instead of forcing something to happen, wisely throws the ball out of bounds and then lines the guys back up. a tiny thing to watch in the game, but i noted it and was impressed by it.

according to my mcb150 professor, "sonic the hedgehog" was a video game in the 1970s(rofl). i quote:

if you haven't seen the tnt overtime clip where ray allen explains how he practices his shooting, you should do it. it's very basic, but informative. he also explains some of the drills he uses.
fyi, michael redd is probably my favorite pure shooter in the nba. that is, pure shooter who knocks down 3s; rip doesn't count. you should watch the clip on nba.com where he wrecks the lakers for 45 pts.
what magneto wants, magneto gets!
the following clips exemplify why i'd rather watch justice league unlimited and batman beyond than some of the japanese cartoons these days. can you say overdoing it:

real nice 3s ken; good red parry stuff

really bad 3s match

to catch THE predator
when he started slowly raising his right arm to initiate his self-destruct sequence i cracked up
when he started slowly raising his right arm to initiate his self-destruct sequence i cracked up
if you had seen the kings at suns game last night, you would've heard me cracking up so hard during the 1st quarter. suns were just scoring layups at will 2 seconds after the kings scored a bucket. LAYUPS. the last possession, marion nailed a shot at the buzzer, then ran into the locker room like it was halftime. goes to show how kings are not really that defensively improved compared to last year; i think the kings have no frontcourt defense.
the kings announcer greg napier was like "good basket by bibby-oh there goes marion" "what a move by mart-oh there goes barbosa." cracked me up.
in the past 2 years i've sorta frowned upon the suns because they did not play defense. i now realize that's a bit of a stretch; just because opponents score a lot more points on them does not mean they are defensively soft; they have more possessions to try and score more. granted, they don't lockdown like the spurs, and i truly believe their defense is related emotionally to their offense; when their offense goes down, they start to suffer defensively. and mike antoni asking them to play more defense is-yes, i agree with tim legler, lip service. but they don't suck persay; there are worse defensive teams in the league; washington, celtics, sixers, sonics as well. they also suck on the boards. that's their main weakness. that's why i'm looking forward to hearing the prognosis when they run into the magic. orlando is just crazy, love dwight.
what i don't like about the suns' defense though, is sometimes they'll allow the opponents to score just so that they can start a fastbreak. like not put any defensive pressure. it's funny to watch(especially if they get a layup 2 seconds later for doing so), but a good basketball team wants to minimize those types of things during the postseason. and of course, nash can't defend a statue.
---
team-by-team comparisons:
in curiousity, i wanted to look at each team to get a glimpse of how defensively tough some teams are. what cracked me up though was that golden state(though a very defensively porous team) leads the league in blocks per game(an average of 6). while orlando has the monstrous dwight howard, magic are 16th in rebounds per game. utah is 1st.
as to oppt fg%, i love the orlando magic; according to the stats they are one of the most offensively efficient(fg%) AND defensive stopping teams(oppt fg%) in the league; 1st and 2nd to be exact. houston is right now surprisingly the best defensive team; #1 in oppt's fg%. other teams of note(at least for me):
utah #10
detroit #11(this doesn't look too bad until you look at their oppt's 3pt% category; please stop trying to teach zone d flip)
san antonio #13
golden state is #20
chicago #21(they'll get better)
sacramento is #23
phoenix: #22
and 3pt% for opponents, respectively(since it really means jack if you lock down the paint if the perimeter just opens wide):
phoenix: #2(weird; perhaps too many are trying to match their offensive game, and so screw up?)
orlando: #4(told ya they're defensive beasts; at #2 and #4, they are a complete defensive team)
houston: #21
utah: #29
detroit: #27(ya detroit sucks like crap defensively; we should just call them Etroit until they improve; i miss larry and ben)
san antonio: #25
golden state: #12
chicago: #14
sacramento: #24
i forgot to say the hornets' defense also looks very good on both sides; #4(fg%), #6(3pt%). i guess getting tyson chandler was a huge boost for them.
of course, it's still only about 1.5 months into the season, i expect this stuff maybe to swirl around a bit more. but it's always fun to look at numbers like this this early.
the kings announcer greg napier was like "good basket by bibby-oh there goes marion" "what a move by mart-oh there goes barbosa." cracked me up.
in the past 2 years i've sorta frowned upon the suns because they did not play defense. i now realize that's a bit of a stretch; just because opponents score a lot more points on them does not mean they are defensively soft; they have more possessions to try and score more. granted, they don't lockdown like the spurs, and i truly believe their defense is related emotionally to their offense; when their offense goes down, they start to suffer defensively. and mike antoni asking them to play more defense is-yes, i agree with tim legler, lip service. but they don't suck persay; there are worse defensive teams in the league; washington, celtics, sixers, sonics as well. they also suck on the boards. that's their main weakness. that's why i'm looking forward to hearing the prognosis when they run into the magic. orlando is just crazy, love dwight.
what i don't like about the suns' defense though, is sometimes they'll allow the opponents to score just so that they can start a fastbreak. like not put any defensive pressure. it's funny to watch(especially if they get a layup 2 seconds later for doing so), but a good basketball team wants to minimize those types of things during the postseason. and of course, nash can't defend a statue.
---
team-by-team comparisons:
in curiousity, i wanted to look at each team to get a glimpse of how defensively tough some teams are. what cracked me up though was that golden state(though a very defensively porous team) leads the league in blocks per game(an average of 6). while orlando has the monstrous dwight howard, magic are 16th in rebounds per game. utah is 1st.
as to oppt fg%, i love the orlando magic; according to the stats they are one of the most offensively efficient(fg%) AND defensive stopping teams(oppt fg%) in the league; 1st and 2nd to be exact. houston is right now surprisingly the best defensive team; #1 in oppt's fg%. other teams of note(at least for me):
utah #10
detroit #11(this doesn't look too bad until you look at their oppt's 3pt% category; please stop trying to teach zone d flip)
san antonio #13
golden state is #20
chicago #21(they'll get better)
sacramento is #23
phoenix: #22
and 3pt% for opponents, respectively(since it really means jack if you lock down the paint if the perimeter just opens wide):
phoenix: #2(weird; perhaps too many are trying to match their offensive game, and so screw up?)
orlando: #4(told ya they're defensive beasts; at #2 and #4, they are a complete defensive team)
houston: #21
utah: #29
detroit: #27(ya detroit sucks like crap defensively; we should just call them Etroit until they improve; i miss larry and ben)
san antonio: #25
golden state: #12
chicago: #14
sacramento: #24

lincoln brewster is fast becoming my favorite christian artist who is a worship leader. i intend on buying his live cd(usually i wouldn't consider some artist one of my faves unless i would buy an album of theirs; that means that i like a lot of their songs), and since i've heard his main church that he frequents is actually in sacramento(bayside church in granite bay, in roseville along I-80), i wouldn't mind visiting this upcoming sunday(finals not until 16th); might be kinda fun, heh.
i WOULD need to show up right on time as opposed to 10 minutes late though, if i'm going mainly to see him perform, that is IF he's leading worship that day.

i can't believe i'm deciding to stay on campus to get extra study time(saving 1-2 hrs going back to campus to eat and coming back) for tomorrow's quiz in place of WATCHING THE MAGIC FACE THE KINGS tonight.
i'm missing the chance to see dwight "the manchild" howard for a quiz?!??!?
a guy who is just going to kill the kings for their lack of interior defense and rebounding on their home court?
only the league's best rebounder?!?!??
arguably the league's best big man?
*sigh*
considering how tnt or espn have yet to show a game with the orlando magic in it, this blows...
times like this make me wonder what if we had dvd recorders.

being constantly fascinated with human height, i found the chart listing average height on wiki to be interesting
an interesting tidbit is comparing a foreign country's average height(usually an asian country) to that of the usa; it appears that there's usually a gain of about 2-3 inches in height(this i would presume owing up to good nutrition(and maybe increased consumption of calcium-rich products like milk, cheese, etc), one of the components to height(genetics and environment are the two)). look at the height for people from the danaric alps! crazy... netherlands is also pretty impressive.
all in all, i guess women are on average a lot shorter than i originally imagined; i used to think american women came out at around 5-5, 5-6. my mom is 5-5; above-average for being taiwanese, average for being american.
that being said, usa is a very large demographic; i would like to know exactly the stats on california, comparing different races. i still believe that most women would be a lot taller if they drank more milk and didn't eat rather scarcely while in their teens.
this is pretty funny actually; loopholes For T3h Win
reminds me a lot of norman's playstation 2 box prank.
what counterstrike: neo(japanese-exclusive counterstrike) players look like
i suck even more than i used to do at cs 1.6; 1/30 was the final ratio of kills:deaths last night when i played. the 1 coming from a random pump shotgun hit i threw outta nowhere at midrange. my assault rifle shooting is WAAAY off. i'd play more in the coming days to correct this, but the quarter's winding down, and cs sessions carve crazy amounts of time away; nothing like getting headshot in the 1st 30 seconds, then spending 4:30 watching others slowly walk around the arena trying not to die.
i really can't figure out how to handle the blogger in-beta; i just can't bring my archives to show up at all. i think i'm just gonna use the default templates they offer; i dunno if they would screw with my page once i use it, but i don't see any other choice; i let this thing stay, and i can't link to any archives. i'm just gonna have to 1st save a copy of my original template i've used for so long.
fyi, if you didn't know already, jeremy got a very nice bday present from me
i have a wicked sense of humor sometimes. i actually like giving P.I. gifts as presents, it's fun seeing the reactions on the person's face whom you gave the gift to.

apologize for the stoppage of "picks of the week" for 2 straight weeks; it'll be back this weekend; stupid homework and quiz and all holding me back...

God must be "somewhat" nice to me today for putting pistons at heat and jazz at lakers tonight on tnt. i say somewhat, b/c i still have unfinished homework. always. have. unfinished. homework. it's not due on friday, but still...
UC Davis basketball loses against Stanford on Tuesday
on tuesday after seeing the espn ticker announce the score, i told jerm and he responded that he had seen the game on tv. i asked how the aggies lost the game; poor offense, no defense, no boarding? he responded that they just got beat in every way possible. it would be nice if UC Davis actually recorded the box score for that game so i could find out exactly why they lost(and i would not be surprised if it was rebounding, because the UC Davis team looked like a bunch of midgets last time i saw them play on tv with no big men), but eh.
this guy needs to get laid, or something equivalent. i hate nintendo fanboys
to pun that video, "wii are not amused." 5 days awake? HUH?!?!??

i know chris really likes dwyane wade and so a while back i remember visiting his xanga to find it crowded with the dwyane wade commercials where he's interviewed and quite candid about various aspects of basketball and how he feels. i like wade out of the three from the same draft(melo, lbj, wade), but out of the 3 superstars' commercials as of late(the lebrons[i got it wise, lol], the wade interviews, and the new melo one), i really like the carmelo one. it's based on the fact that he developed a reputation as being a buzzer beater.
here
i love how the piano music in the background complemented with the rising musical strings(cello or bass?) volume makes it all dramatic; the best part is the end with 2.4 seconds left on the game clock when you see george karl(well, actually you don't see his face so it could've been any actor posing as george karl) draw out a play for carmelo: a screen off of a curl to the outside, and he remembers back to when he practiced that play in practice, executing it with perfection(the repeated cut between the coach drawing the play and him executing it in practice is a very nice cinematic touch with the background music). he gets up from the timeout, stretches a little, and you hear him saying "why wouldn't i want the last shot, when i know i've already made it." really nice commercial.
---
IMO there is no joy or sadness in celebrating a birthday. it just means you spent 1 more cold and dark year outside of your mother's womb, and are 1 year closer to "coming home." society only makes it feel like it's a happy thing because of age restrictions upon what you can do, like driving, or buying alcohol, or getting social security.
---
if you've ever looked up michelle branch's info on wikipedia(i like her as an artist) and used it as a stepping stone to learn about her(such as the link to the maxim interview), i think you would be impressed with her attitude about various things, compared to most other contemporary artists. i think for instance, when she was interviewed, she said something like "can we stop talking about my clothing and talking about my guitars? i'm a musician, not a fashion designer." another would be that whenever she comes home, she can't listen to any station that plays her music; the stuff on the radio now sucks. so she says she listens to oldies stations. also grew up on metallica, guns n roses, etc(that always gets a thumbs up from me). states she has the humor of a 17-yr old boy; she wouldn't hesitate to watch spinal tap or dumb and dumber if someone asked her for it. actually gets turned on by the guy WHO'S IGNORING HER(if only...). and finally, the best one; "i can't hang around with girls; i'd rather hang around with guys; girls are so insecure. guys you can just tell fart jokes all day long."
too bad she's married, so the total population of available girls like this in the world is 1 shorter.

ykno how a while back i linked to a youtube video showing kg on some show in taipei?
elaboration: here's his blog when he was in taipei, apparently promoting his adidas shoe.
it's interesting how more and more people are entertaining the idea of kg being traded seeing how postseason success has eluded him and father time is catching up to him. nobody questions how good he is, how versatile he is, but because he has never been able to go deep into the playoffs due to lack of complimentary players, people would love to entertain that "what if" question a lot. that is, if he had the proper support, is his individual greatness enough to win a championship? i'm hoping he at least gets a chance to reach the conference finals at least once more during his prime. he deserves THAT much.
just not as a laker. oh please no. *imagines the number of bandwagon fans in california coming out of the woodwork saying "i'm a diehard lakers fan i love kobe & kg and well um, um, well i don't know anybody else on the team, and i rarely watch any games, but i love the lakers!"*

hate to say it, but the guys at espn have it dead on; the nba eastern conference sucks LIKE CRAP at the current moment. it's even worse than in the previous years because now there is no more than 1 eastern conference team at the moment who can give the upper tiers of the western conference a challenge; in the past 2nd year, you had indiana, detroit and miami. in the past year, detroit and miami. now, its, ???
the only team that looks good is the orlando magic as of late. howard is just crazy. and getting better.
cavs have some better records, but they just lost to the knicks at HOME.
and pistons still aren't quite the good team they used to be, although they have been winning more games, it's due to their offense.
but things in may and june are a lot more different than they are here. maybe things'll look up. i greatly like and have high hopes in orlando, chicago and detroit.

scott skiles quotes(this guy's smart):
"Basketball is like religion: many attend, few understand."
"My problem would not be 'can I play in the game?' It would be, 'can I get up the next morning?' That's one of the reasons I stopped playing. I got tired of crawling to the breakfast table the next morning."

kinda funny how some nba teams try to address uniformality, but it's kinda lopsided; i repeat; what's wrong with wearing headbands and rubber bands and tights, but ok about wearing wristbands pulled up to your upper arms or elbows? it's not like you're letting players wear jewelry out there. and these things are supposed to help; i used to wear headbands just because i thought it was cool, until i tried playing on a hot summer day without it, and found it slightly aggrevating how sweat kept coming down my face and almost into my eyes.
(of course a lot of this curiousity of mine stems from why utah has something against that, and the recent ben wallace incident with skiles)
i WANT to say more on the subject about how by taking away these things, you are not allowing ben wallace to play with the swagger that defines him, that attitude that allows his defensive game to be so awesome, but i really don't know how i'd go about it, and would probably just sound like a fool(i mean, yea i guess to some degree, but it's still a piece of cloth). but i'll try.
i guess to make things "short", the reason why i loved ben wallace so much (at least, when he was a piston), is that yes, he does block shots, rebound, occasionally come up with steals and such, but that's not why he's one of my favorite players in the game; marcus camby comes up with similar stats, there's players which average more blocks per night, etc. it's the combination of that and his swagger that just seemed to exude from him. you know that weird aura that seems to come off ray lewis whenever the ravens' defense takes the field? ben wallace is like that. it was the afro, the swagger, the bell, the way he carried himself in the locker room, his giant hops, everything. it's sorta like his whole body is saying "i'm going to shut you down, and there's nothing you can do about it." ben wallace played off of this type of feeling, and if you didn't like him, you would've just thought he's another Bad Boy in the wrong timeframe. but i believe those that really like him don't just like his shotblocking and rebounding ability; they like that swagger that comes off of him. take away that feeling that he has(i recently learned that while he does have a bad right wrist, it's not that reason why he misses so many free throws; he's honestly THAT amped up during the game; that's how intense he feels on defense), he's probably not going to play with that same fire. and the same intensity.
edit: forgot to write that why ben wallace feels negative against pregame music is that he used to keep an ipod chock full of hardcore hip-hop songs to play hooked up to a loudspeaker in the pistons' locker room before a game to amp everybody up. INTENSE.
edit2: oh crap; biedrins had SIX BLOCKS!!!!?!?!? i remembered watching the kings at warriors game and biedrins went for a LOT of swat attempts. maybe he'll become a good shot blocker real soon.

this is why i don't like seinfeld and friends:
cause when they have an all-white cast,
it actually isn't that surprising
that something like this eventually happens

anybody wanna watch this movie with me during winter break?
i wonder if it's gonna suck, or live up to the previous ones.
fyi, my personal favorite rocky movie might've been the 4th one.

upload a photo, view who you look most like, post your results on your website or whatnot.
i WOULD do it, except i don't have a camera. eh, whatever.

*sigh* 12:30 pm back to apartment
1:30 pm(hopefully)
3:00 pm(hopefully)
this season's kinda weird for yao; on the other hand, he's really never played this good before as everything he takes in the paint's going in and he's getting like 30+ pts every night(though i still think as a big man he should be killing the boards and inhaling shots), but on the other hand, there's already more highlight reels of him getting owned than i remember already; i already have 3 and it isn't even december yet:
dantay jones posterizing him,
duncan stopping his 2-handed dunk with the right hand so hard yao fell over and then coming down with the ball,
and of course,
nate robinson denying him with the left hand so hard it temporarily hurt his eyes.

interesting how some of my wma's were downloaded from napster because of a particular fanmade video i saw online and really liked:
just to name 7:
mc hammer - you can't touch this(rasheed wallace pistons video)
jon bon jovi - it's my life(dwyane wade video)
dragonforce - my spirit will go on(marvel vs capcom 2 - magneto exhibition video)
jay z - a dream(hakeem olajuwon rockets video)
royce de 5'9 - boom(paul pierce video)
dmx featuring swizz beats - we in here(ben wallace pistons video)
kurupt - on, onsite(dwight howard video)
there actually would be a lot more i'd download, but some aren't on napster, like: nelly - here comes the boom

picks of the week:
1. bible verse:
still need to think about this one... come back to me next week :D
2. food:
dreyer's apple pie ice cream(limited edition). it's pretty good; seems to contain so many apples in pie sauce and pie crusts, that the ice cream feels a lot more softer due to the lack of ice cream. fyi, the expression "as american as apple pie" is not foreal. apple pies existed before the usa was founded. am i the only one that was shocked at that?
3. music equip:
...
4. place:
i long to be at the arboretum, but the rain and wet and windy conditions have denied me.
5. song:
i plan on downloading this .wmv: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b5lBGxdDb8c
6. sports game:
kings at warriors, and niners at lions; the 1st reminded me how much running don nelson emphasized with tmc(here's to hoping they can do this on the road and against defensive-minded teams), and the 2nd was just awesome for chauntee spencer laying out john kitna.
7. thought:
we live in a world where sticking to your beliefs if they're false is foolishness, and being apt to change is also wrong, showing your fear in the face of popularity. the hard part about this life is be able to be able to divide right from wrong, and then to focus your body to follow what your mind believes to be the truth... no matter what anybody else believes and says.
8. video game:
what i'm putting down today is a combo video that i uploaded but didn't create. imo, it's the best ssf2t combo video ever; and i've seen a lot of impressive ones, like the 2 studio l ones from tosaka.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GcgEhm1uYUg
9. other(product):
"this is spinal tap" is a really awesome comedy movie; i remember watching it with phil once when i was a kid, and i'm hoping to watch it again sometime soon; it's really funny, makes fun of the whole british rock star stuff.
example of a funny clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AhVWJgIzftE heh heh; this one goes to 11
also: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QY8cTBpkzyE
10.other(various):
i can't wait til turkey bowl; i just might call 2 of the msmers around and see if they're willing to go as well.

SNL - blue oyster cult
i love this skit... for some reason i started thinking about it during lunch.
the cowbell cracks me up.

someone got owned by the denjin hadoken this week.
kinda hard to not know about this, although it's fresh news:
Iranian-American UCLA student gets tazered for not producing ID and resisting authority.
video
NBC
daily bruin
as for my opinion, i'm kinda 50/50 on this. i know some people are saying the police stepped over the line, and used excessive force and that they probably wouldn't do that if the person was white. however, some people are saying that the person got what he deserved for yelling and saying "get off me!" as opposed to being polite and stuff.
i think that the student should've been polite and stuff; since at the time he had no ID and was resisting authority. but he shouldn't have been tazed more than 3 times. tazing someone 5 times is excessive.

i really don't understand how my mp3 player's voice recorder option can go dead silent for 30 full minutes... the battery didn't die, the mic worked when i tried a test record later, but for 30 full minutes, basically the entire lecture, all i got is dead silence. I DON'T GET IT! it's like God's juking me and making it harder to keep up and stuff. so now i can't understand what i wrote down, since the professor talks way too much without writing anything on the blackboard for me to get anything down.
well, at least it's only 30 minutes, and not a full lecture, and i haven't been going at all to office hours. maybe this'll give me an excuse to walk in on tuesday. so i'm just gonna take today off.
tonight's nba games look really good.

recognize my new title? :D
fyi, i need to photocopy some of the designs on my t-shirts; some of them are cool, but the constant washing is making the designs fade away... i'll soon have no way to keep those designs. i'll lament the day that my uc davis cow tipping team t-shirt is no longer legible.
once when i was in LA, i saw x-men vs street fighter action figure 2-pak sets. ryu & magneto, or akuma & wolverine were on sale. i turned them down and instead got a small super soaker keychain. oh, how i regret doing that.
i also did not choose to get the exploding t-1000 action figure when i was small. big mistake. big, big, mistake.

edit:
wikipedia is my anti-study(i tend to look up all sorts of junk, mainly food, superheroes, bball players):
you can indirectly test whether or not you are lactose intolerant by drinking two cups of milk on an empty stomach. then seeing what happens in the next following hours. i passed :D
i didn't need to look up lactose intolerance to understand the basics of it; i've taken enough basic food science classses to know it; it is actually not "normal" to be able to drink milk beyond childhood; lactase, the enzyme which is responsible for digesting lactose is at its highest when as a baby, b/c you need to be able to drink breast milk as your main source of food. once you are past that though, the need diminishes. in addition, when you don't continuously consume food products with lactose, your body gets the sense that it does not need to produce lactase anymore, and thus production weans(this is partially why i still drink milk and a lot of it each day; not only because i know it's healthy and good for your height and bones and stuff, but because i don't think i have a genetic change owing up to lactose tolerance, so i detest that day where i might become lactose intolerant because i don't ever drink milk anymore). in some people, there is a genetic change which allows them to consume lactose regardless of how old they are; people who are able to consistently consume lactose regardless of time tend to be those which have economically had cows around them, thus needing to use milk as a dietary staple; mainly the europeans. asians on the other hand, have never had cows around, and thus, never drank milk as a staple.
i'll consider myself lucky in that sense where i can still consume 1% milk without needing to rush to the bathroom.
fyi, i could never drink lactaid; i tried it and it was just too sweet(b/c the lactose sugar is broken down into the basic two sugars, hence it tastes sweeter); how in the world do people like this?
marmalade is added to yogurt, not fresh fruit; it preserves its life longer.
my mom used to tell me to eat more yogurt because "there's some europeans that live very long lives, and the reason they do is supposedly because they eat yogurt." those europeans are the bulgarians. yogurt also MUST contain live and active cultures, basically bacteria. however, frozen yogurt may or may not contain live and active cultures. that doesn't mean it's not yogurt, just that the live and active cultures may have been killed. though american-style yogurt has gelatin added to it, yogurt is supposed to naturally have a gellish appearance and structure.
cheddar is an english cheese(used to think it was a mexican cheese; cheddar is by far my favorite cheese; goes on anything cheese is good on mostly)
i used to think "american cheese" was just something kraft made up to be able to sell their Singles; it does exist, but only a few companies make it; kraft singles for instance; it is really just a combo of kolby(another american cheese) with cheddar. i dunno if that's legit; that's like saying laughing cow cheese is another type of cheese because it mixes swiss with cheddar. fyi, though i like cheese, i never really liked kraft singles; if you tried to eat them straight up, they had a weird odor and taste.
mozerella is formed by spinning the curds(hence the round ball). it's actually supposed to be a lot wetter than the mozarella you buy in stores.
cottage cheese is rediculously healthy compared to other forms of cheese; little fat, little cholesterol, high protein, etc. cottage cheese is in essence curds without processing. i guess the processing somehow adds other stuff to it. also not stated in wikipedia but in the encyclopedia i had at home: cottage cheese(along with cream cheese) is one of the few types of cheeses that came out of america; while america doesn't seem to have invented as many unique cheeses compared to the european nations, it is the nation that produces the largest amounts of cheese. i never really ate cottage cheese with anything; just ate it straight up, not fruit topping, not on yogurt.
mars replaced by snickers almond; they used to sell a mars candy bar when i was a kid; it didn't go anywhere, just changed its name. but i distinctly remember it not having chocolate coating, but i could be wrong.
3 musketeers used to be a neopolitan flavor as opposed to a chocolate nougat inside; it was also a lot larger. explains why it was called 3 musketeers. guess some things really are better in the old days. kinda like how cup o' noodles used to have a LOT more stuff in their noodles, according to my mom; they put eggs in there.
also not found on wikipedia, but i remember: 7up cherry bubble gum used to exist, now it doesn't; they were rectangular boxes of cherry gum with a gellish fruit syrup in the middle
(in retrospect, i realize i really like learning weird facts and science about food; i should've double-majored in genetics and food science when i just entered college, and taken bioinformatics; but then again, hindsight is 20/20, and that's why we live in a temporal world; not everything we want to accomplish and possess will be done)

whoa... and i thought mp3 turntables were crazy, but this one takes the cake...
crazy thought: canaan should try to get someone to learn how to dj and then give them this as their musical instrument on sundays; they can alternate between either this or an electric violin on different songs to suit tastes.

know how i was salivating over the fake tay gave on kobe to tilt him over?
clicky
looks like not a lotta ppl actually uploaded the block by ben wallace on drew gooden(it was sick); maybe i'll put it on youtube as well; it's just that by past experience, youtube doesn't put up videos until 1 day has past; i'm kinda afraid that by then, there'll be a plethora of the same video(seeing how i don't like the lakers, nothing enrages me more than seeing about 300 of the same video of kobe posterizing ben wallace when he was on the wizards). and the thing is that i haven't gotten used to uploading a clean video; VirtualDub allows me to resize videos by adding a black background, that way the videos don't get distorted and lose quality, but it won't work with .asf, which is the ONLY format that the program i use to save the .asx files from nba.com are in. you can see an example of how bad it is by looking at the ben wallace putback i have uploaded(i've kept it up there, cause i've meant to change it, but don't want to just take it down until i've fixed it):

picks of the week:
1. bible verse:
i've been trying to memorize about 4 this week, mainly b/c 3 i kinda already know, but i like these off the top of my head:
Psalm 138:2
I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name.
John 16:33
These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In this world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.
Jeremiah 29:13
And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.
(still trying to memorize Philippins 3:13-14; haven't quite gotten it down yet)
2. food:
Even though i never cook it, i'm thinking about "tsa mi." Can't be THAT hard to cook. I'm just not good at chopping stuff up really small, so i wouldn't be able to stir fry too well.
3. music equip:
... (again)...
4. place:
Arboretum
5. song:
(from now on, i'm gonna link the song portion to napster(or a youtube video if i can't find it); they allow you to listen to a free track from their vast library once, which will enable you to sample the song i list)
Just remembered this one from watching CMC when i was a late teen
6. sports game:
pistons at lakers... (for bouncing back from the awful showing i saw when they were at arco arena and my main man tayshaun showing he's one of the most versatile 3's in the game)
honorable mention goes to hornets at warriors for warriors actually winning, and vikings at niners, for niners doing the wtf and winning with defense
7. thought:
we live in a world where the pressure is on you to always conform to society, or you are viewed as nothing. for the early years of my life until i was a late teen, i bought into that lie, thinking it would buy me friends, and that that would make me happy. now i see through it. if soloman, the wisest king and possibly one of the richest kings of the world saw through that lie(by trying ever sort of pleasure in the world), why would it change simply because of father time?
8. video game:
eh... the video games i list tend to not change. it's roughly vf- > cvs2 > ssf2t > tk5dr. i think what i'll do from now on is link to a match video if it's a fighting game.
ssf2t - john choi(o.sagat) vs daigo(o.sagat/ryu/balrog)
classic... watch daigo's balrog make a huge comeback and rip up john choi to advance... crowd reaction is awesome too... fyi, daigo is not as technical compared to other top ssf2t players, but his reaction time is rediculously good.
9. other(product):
batman beyond season 2 is awesome... i'm not even halfway done with disk 1. and there's 3 more to go!
10.other(various):
fasting was good. i'm glad i did it. came at a good time, plus, for some reason ucd was honoring veterans day on a friday, so i got to go to campus early and just pray and read the bible at the arboretum until the library opened at noon, then do some work.

i love tayshaun...
that jumper was just going his way... and it wasn't really an ankle breaker, but just to see kobe fall down guarding tayshaun was kinda cool.
i have a feeling that on friday night chris, george and bryon did not enjoy tayshaun... JUST A HUNCH
fyi, 2 most interesting things i heard about tayshaun that the commentators said during that game:
-he had 47 relatives of his attend that game; tayshaun's hometown is in compton.
-he has such a great wealth of sports knowledge, concerning college and professional basketball; they might have even said some other stuff that he knew(prof football?), that one of his nicknames that his piston teammates call him is T.P.dot com. as in, if they don't know something, they'll say, "i gotta go check T.P.dot com."
(though their games are not that similar, tayshaun reminds me a LOT of joe dumars; like joe, tayshaun is the team's best perimeter defender, and really really quiet, but just does his thing so well; perhaps he'll like joe, get a finals mvp, eventually become the pistons manager one day and bring the pistons another trophy on the managment side of bball)

(though their games are not that similar, tayshaun reminds me a LOT of joe dumars; like joe, tayshaun is the team's best perimeter defender, and really really quiet, but just does his thing so well; perhaps he'll like joe, get a finals mvp, eventually become the pistons manager one day and bring the pistons another trophy on the managment side of bball)

wrote this a while back and saved it on my usb drive; i figure i might as well post this so i can get rid of the doc file. and clear up some minute space on my usb drive.
in pure boredom, i looked up evanescence on wikipedia, and used it as a stepping stone to find out more about them. what got me was how they said that they were not a christian band. i know it's been discussed before, but my focus of concern was mainly the article that was on christianitytoday.com that talked about them.
the thing they(evanescence) said was basically this; if you listened to their lyrics, you would tell immediately that they were not a christian band. and what got me was the fact that the article said that several christian music reviewers DID listen to their cd, and thought FAVORABLY of their cd, thinking it should have been on their shelves.
did that hit you the way it hit me?
you see, if the band members of a music group are christian(amy and moody did profess to be christians), their lyrics don't contain profanity, and are actually positive, upbeat messages, but DON'T actually make their songs about God, ie you don't hear the exact words(praise God in it) is that still christian music? if you did not know that the band members of any christian rock group or hip-hop, r&b, pop, whatnot were christian, if they weren't played on air1, would you know right off the bat that they were christian? my intuition tells me no.
some people say that being in a musical group and being christian does not oblidge you to have to praise God in your lyrics. it might not be your calling. how can you call yourself a christian then? can you truly call yourself a christian if you do not live and breathe christ? and if you don't, can you truly say he's influenced your life to the point where you make it your no 1 priority in life to live out the greatest commandment as listed in mark 12:29-30? you can tell me peter was a fisherman and paul was a tentmaker, but nobody who was a christian and their main occupation was to sing songs ever sang secular songs as their occupation in the bible. i have not come across such a person as of yet in my bible studies. when david appointed psalmists and musicians, it was to praise God as their occupation. and yet today, we have a breed of christians who sing songs not about God as their job.
sometimes i don't even consider what i hear on air1 or klove as the same calibur as christian music; i just consider it "good music." ie, if i like the melody, cool. seriously, how many times do they state God or Jesus in their songs? how many times is it written in a sense that is in AWE of God? do i need to listen to a postive song in order to right my paths(i am stating this b/c it's easy for people to say that we need to listen to positive music in order to do what's right; hello, we're christians; we have a bible for that)?
why would i bring this up? take a look at the book of psalms. those were books written in praise of God; genuine christian songs. now see how many times God or Lord is stated in each psalm, how many times the psalmist praises him for his works, his words, his creations, his justice, his mercy.
you don't even need to look that far back; take a look at the hymnals most people in contemporary worship services never sing(even as songs in their contemporary worship rotations); those were genuine praises to God; those lyrics had thought and awe written all over them. "this is my story, this is my song, praising my savior, all the day long." how many "christian songs" these days actually say something like that?
(compare that with air1 playing hawk nelson's lyrics of "you got me at jesus," which sounds more like a song about christiansingles dot com)
---
now i'm not saying if you are not a songwriter that you get off scot free. we all have our responsibilities to reach out to others as christians; that's a constant weak spot in my maturity. i'm trying to show that the songwriters' medium for communicating jesus is that much more easier, just because they're a songwriter. if they can't even muster the courage to say "praise God" in their lyrics when they claim to be a christian band(in America, where the worst that can possibly happen is they get booed), maybe they aren't very christian to begin with. it's so interesting how society has a double standard where if you talk about hos and bling in your lyrics and cuss your head off, that's fine, but if you talk about God, whoa there...

bank commercial
japanese fanta commercial
hahahaha
even though pistons lost, i had to save the recap of that game; incredible highlights on both teams, and the end was just crazy; clutch play by daron, and then clutch defense by tayshaun to steal the ball, followed by okur winning it with a block. i love the jazz AND the pistons.
and i saved the warriors-mavs recap because i couldn't find a single highlight of baron driving and dunking; just the recap.
i really think they're not calling the zero tolerance rule properly. this is just like the leninent interior foul stuff; it favors nice-guy superstars way too much. sheed got a tech for saying "and1."

bringing back an oldie but goodie; had to labourously search my online journal to recopy and repaste this; for some reason i couldn't find it by searching "picks"
picks of the week:
1. bible verse:
2nd timothy 2:3-5:
(off the top of my memory:)
Thou therefore, endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.
No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life, that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.
And if a man also strive for masteries, yet is he not crowned, except he strive lawfully.
2. food:
Breyer's Vanilla Ice Cream with store-bought oreos
3. music equip:
...
4. place:
Computer Lab
5. song:
Guns N Roses: Knocking On Heaven's Door
6. sports game:
Chicago Bulls At Miami Heat; also thinking about Chicago Bulls Vs sacramento Kings tonight
7. thought:
It seriously amazes me how much bs women put about putting the toilet seat down. (you get this flak most of the time when a man and woman get together at dinner for some reason) Most of it has to do with how gross the toilet is when men piss over, THEREFORE, it should be their responsibility to put it down even when the woman is a guest in a house full of guys. Now, I could go on and on and stuff, but the main thing I wanted to put down is this:
Are women so stupid? I KNOW it's gross letting the toilet seat down with your bare hards, but nothing's preventing you from taking a piece of toilet paper(as it's right there), using it as a guard between your bare hand and the toilet seat to let the toilet seat down! I know most guys never bring this thing up in conversation, but are people so stupid as to not think about this one? Am I the only one who actually KNOWS this one? And does it?
Then again, maybe my mom is just way too ahead of this time(and most girls). My mom never had this stupid bs in our house about letting the toilet seat down, it was always "richard, you LEFT the toilet seat down; how many times do i have to tell you?" and (when i was a kid)"richard that's gross; next time you want to let the toilet seat down, use toilet paper." ALWAYS.
8. video game:
Capcom Vs SNK 2 - for some reason, i've grown very fond of this game, even though i don't have it, and even if i did, would be unable to play it. match videos for this game are NOT turtly. they're deep.
9. other(product):
Terminator 2 was a movie that was way better than just the average action shooter; I intend to someday own the special dvd.
10.other(various):
Hakeem Olajuwon is one of the top 5 centers in basketball of all time; people just don't realize it b/c they hug on MJ's nuts during the 90's. He had no real weakness in his game, was an excellant defensive player, and could create his own shot even if he picked up his dribble(as his specialty was the Dream Shake, a combo of head fakes and bball pumps). He also went through Shaq, Ewing, and Robinson in order to get his two rings, with no complimentary all-stars on his team, which only shows how much of a great player he was. I truly respect this guy, and he is my favorite dominant all-star out of the 90s next to Michael Jordan. Maybe my favorite now-not-playing center, next to Bill Russell. Ppl say Jordan was better, but they never played against each other in the post-season, so any conclusions we can make about who is better are inconclusive. I would've loved to watch Rockets take on the Bulls in the 90s for the chip.
edit: almost forgot clyde drexler was around when the rockets made a run at defending their title.

"Ric Bucher: Keep in mind with all prognostications: we're watching the game change before our very eyes. The precepts for winning championships are not the same. You can have a mediocre defense and win a title, but you have to have a great offense. It used to be the other way around. Now where the scales fall between O and D, that's what we're going to learn this season."
sadness... to add:
college ball has undeveloped players playing with basketball rules that make sense
nba ball has developed players playing with basketball rules that don't make sense

today, nba-wise was kinda bittersweet for me. more bitter than sweet though.
magic won at the expense of the bulls. that's mainly why it was bittersweet. one of my favorite up-and-coming eastern teams was going to fall today regardless, but i was at least hoping it would be closer. dwight's amazing though regardless.
and pistons lost.
---
sometimes i can't use statcounter.com to determine who actually visits my journal, because i do actually come back to it quite often seeing if anybody's commented. thus bloating up the number of unique visitors. who the hell would want to comment on my site anyhow?
---
wanna know how to piss people off without saying a word? stare at them until you get their attention. don't look angry or happy. just have this intense look in your eyes. keep your gaze right on them for a long period even after they lock eyes with you. then roll your eyes, shake your head and turn away. sigh if you want for added effect.
(note: i have not tried this yet, because while there's a couple of things that people do that annoy me, i am not that willing to anger others like that)
fyi, i really dislike it when people talk to themselves out loud.
---
i now have evanescence and guns and roses' cds. fallen and greatest hits, to be more specific. ac/dc was also on sale, but since i could not find "there's a long way to the top," i declined.

target store-exclusive nerfs:
big bad titan
big bad bow
me and jerm saw the big bad bow, didn't see the titan when we went to target on friday.
the bow's kinda kewl; reminded me of our ol nerfwar days, but it's more like the crossbow and less like the actual bow me and jerm used to have. it still looks cool, and maybe i MIGHT buy it sometime in the future. it comes with 6 arrows.
i like the titan more though; that thing maybe only has 2 arrows and they look really different, but check out the distance you can get with that thing; it's like a missile launcher!

bulls looked sick... loved it... especially when tyrus thomas came over to help and blocked shaq, and the two putbacks; one by thomas, one by ben wallace.
now get your broken nose healed thomas before you play against the kings.
if the bulls keep this up, i would LOVE to see the bulls meet the pistons for the eastern conference finals this season.

thought out of sheer boredom i'd post some scans from the school newpaper; they let you use the scanners for free:

weird advertisement for jack in the box; it's a coupon on the back. but this was like o_0 for me...

study in taiwan ad... yes, i was surprised too, but these have been popping up a lot more frequently in the davis paper; it showed up like ziltch in past years.

this one's special... i usually don't eat out unless i'm pressed for time, and only at a fast food restaurant. redrum used to print out these in the newspaper ALL the time. redrum is like a more expensive, more higher quality, slower-moving in n' out. so i'd usually go and use the buy 1 get 1 free coupon and get 2 1/3rd lb burgers(i think that was the largest you could order burger meat lb-wise without a combo), and since the original price was 7.00 something, i'd basically pay 3.50 or so for a really good burger. twice. now, they don't print these coupons out as often in the paper, and the last time i checked, when they do, it's not buy 1 get 1 free; it's buy 1, 2nd item's half off. this was the last coupon i found that had this exact offer. good times.

life seems so *eh* right now... should i be happy that batman beyond season 2 and jlu season 1 are out, as well as the nba starting this week? maybe... but it really all seems so superficial. "cheap thrills." don't deny it; this is the truth.
i stopped hatin on amare once i came to grips that just because he's on a defensively poor team does not mean he sucks. i will definitely watch him a LOT more closely this nba season(and hope his knees don't kill him, like mcdyess). i'm actually surprised how mixed the bag is in terms of predictions for nba champs this year at espn.com. no pistons picks(can't blame em though; flip's gotta first show that he can be more than just a season-long coach, and also a deep postseason coach), only 1 heat pick(again, can't blame em, although the fact that they overwhelmingly pick the heat to win the eastern conference again baffles me), tons of mavs, spurs and suns picks. mavs and spurs are a given, but surprised how a lot pick the suns. i call rockets as a darkhorse in the western race as well; they have bonzi and shane now.
*sigh* i just wish dwight howard would get monstrous already as well as bwall's bulls so i can stop hearing about how the western conference is so much better than the eastern conference.

this is so cool; i get to watch the bulls TWICE next week!
opening night against the heat,
then thursday against the kings.
hopefully i get to see wallace and thomas take the floor at the same time.
fyi, i saw brandon roy preseason against the kings. aside from the kings winning most of the game, roy looks pretty good.

cool little freeware game i found
shift is to use your current weapon; unarmed you punch; takes 2 hits to knock out an enemy; if you punch them from behind you instead strangle them and kill instantly. armed it fires your assault rifle. you also punch when you want to activate or deactivate switches, or get people to follow you/stop following you.
hold down ctrl to sidestep.
z either primes a grenade and released, throws it if you're unarmed, or reloads your rifle; careful; unlike in counterstrike; once you reload, you lose whatever bullets are in the current clip.
x switches between rifle and bare hands.
instructions are in japanese, but it's not too hard to follow.

while looking around on orlandomagic.com for new dwight howard wallpaper, i was surprised to find out they were offering 25% off online purchases, and that one of the dwight howard jerseys was on sale for 19. too bad all of them were sold out :D
anyways, on the wallpaper page, i was surprised to see how they had a special section for former orlando magic "alumn" as they liked to call it; ben wallace, tracy mcgrady, shaq, horace grant, etc, ewing(when did HE play for them?) all here. granted, a couple of them blossomed AFTER they left or won championships elsewhere(ben*cough*shaq), but i liked that special touch; no other team has respected their former great players like that.
hopefully, dwight won't have to end up in that section, because he'll win one in orlando.

espn asks a blogger:
"What would it take for you to get a tattoo of the Warriors' logo on your chest?
Guess who was the head coach of the Warriors the last time they made the playoffs? (Hint: It wasn't Mike Montgomery, Eric Musselman, Brian Winters, Dave Cowens, Garry St. Jean, PJ Carlesimo, Rick Adelman, or even Bob "NBA Cares" Lanier.)
That's right: Don Nelson. Nellieball is back in the Bay Area and Warriors Nation is thinking playoffs. A first-round playoff sweep? We're Warriors fans -- we'll take it!
And that tattoo of the Warriors logo? We're the most loyal fans in the entire NBA -- we each already sport more of those than all of Allen Iverson's tats combined. "Unstoppable baby!"
• Atma Brother No. 1 and Fantasy Junkie of Golden State of Mind"
lol...
i agree; most bay area people would be MORE than happy to see the warriors get swept in the 1st round of the playoffs.
and 2nd on the "most loyal fans in the entire NBA." takes a lotta nerve to be a warriors fan.
(i would like to add seeing ike make this his breakthrough year as an all-around post player would really be nice)
anyways, on the wallpaper page, i was surprised to see how they had a special section for former orlando magic "alumn" as they liked to call it; ben wallace, tracy mcgrady, shaq, horace grant, etc, ewing(when did HE play for them?) all here. granted, a couple of them blossomed AFTER they left or won championships elsewhere(ben*cough*shaq), but i liked that special touch; no other team has respected their former great players like that.
hopefully, dwight won't have to end up in that section, because he'll win one in orlando.

espn asks a blogger:

"There has been no sign of the ninjas."
this is awesome on so many roflcopter levels. watch the video and see how fast they move.
but why would they crash a truck in order to do this? ninjas don't loot. seems more like pirates posing as ninjas. UNLESS... they were ninjas posing AS pirates posing as ninjas.
are you a bad enough dude to rescue the ATM?
---
some commando and spaceballs clips; i should rewatch both of these movies; i fondly remember spaceballs, not so much commando aside from the very cheesy line arnold says at the end of the movie(let off some steam, bennett)
commando trailer
let off some steam, bennett
lol no reloading?
spaceballs - ludicrous speed
we're at now now
i lost the bleeps the sweeps and the creeps

i realize i usually don't link to really good football videos on youtube.
that's cause i usually don't watch them.
well, first time for everything huh?
i like these two:
nice video of ol skool nfl tackles
just watching this made me realize how much more tougher the niners d was back then... *sigh*...
the best stiff arm you're ever going to see
man's videos, heh...

3 blocks in one game i think...
can't remember all of them, but 1 of them was on terrance coming over to help. another might've been on jon, can't remember the 3rd. and i need to improve my endurance. i know i can rebound a lot better.
i rewatched the youtube clip on how bill russell guards two players, and then some ben wallace video. there's a lotta good things they do right there that a lotta players don't do in trying to block a shot. it's all about their spacing between their opponents, how they tense their legs, what they make their opponents think they're going to do or can do. but they're able to do these things b/c their hops enable them to cover more space, so they can back off their opponents, for instance making them think they've got a wide open shot, then jump and take that shot away.
---
i used to watch a weird cartoon when i was a kid; i think it was called "danger mouse;" didn't even know how i could watch that crap; there were a lotta things i used to watch as a kid that were nothing.
fyi, a lotta cartoons you watched as a kid werent necessarily that high quality.
---
oh yea; both batman beyond season 2 and justice league unlimited seasons 1 and 2(i believe they're bundled together) come out tomorrow on sale. big fan of both; watched batman beyond a lot when i was a late teen, and i watched a lot of justice league unlimited shows on cartoon network during college. i intend to get both seasons this weekend. J.L.U. is particularly interesting, b/c it's the 6 core members of the justice league(superman, batman, wonder woman, green lantern, flash, hawkgirl, martian), but now everybody else in dc comics, or at least most of them are involved; green arrow for instance, supergirl, etc.
---
sweet tomatoes had baked sweet potatoes with maple syrup cream this weekend(yes, i went with my mom). soooo good. makes me want to buy some sweet potatoes and maple syrup.
i seem to be in a "baked potato" phase anyhow.

damn, i wished i didn't have any notes to study tonight, so i could've watched the entire bears-cardinals game. matt lineart was GOOD, but bears pulled a come from behind.
bears are really, really good this season. they're getting comparisons to the ditka bears of old the way the pistons used to get comparisons to the 96 bulls last season.

on the internet: back up your mouth with your name...
in real life: back up your mouth with your actions...
2nd one's pretty well-heard. the 1st i think needs some explaination; i just really hate it when someone says some really outlandish claim, and they have a really fake name to back it. so that if you couldn't tell who they were, as if it would give them some sort of shield. for instance, last year i read something like this on the web when the kings were sucking(and didn't have artest yet):
kings will make more than 50 wins, and they'll make the playoffs.
-sactown
or last sunday on fox football:
to is the worst wide receiver ever
-phillyphool
i understand that we all have weird quirky internet names and such, but i believe what i'm trying to say is this: if you're going to make an outlandish claim, then put your name behind it, for crying out loud. otherwise you're just telling me that you won't say those words when your buddies aren't there to back you.

found this while searching for youtube videos on amare stoudamire:
amare wrecks havoc in less than 1 minute
no wonder sam likes him so much... damn...
and this is probably my favorite putback of all time:
ben wallace vs the suns
i actually have the realtime clip on a cd at home; i'll try to update that once i go home near the end of this month.

John 16:33
These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In this world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.
-such comforting words
check this
click on "understanding the king james bible;" this chapter was taken straight out of the author's book "new bible versions" which i have; i consider this guide in the appendix in the back to be a very good guide for understanding the bible better.
the best thing i like about the introduction is that the author reminds us that the bible is a spiritual book; hence the distance between us understanding the bible is not words, but sin. hence why we don't necessarily self-help books in order to understand the bible better. he points out that jesus used the common language of the day with peter, but peter was not able to understand him.
this guide is partially why i wanted to start memorizing bible verses again. it will help you to think about God more often during the day.
(fyi, while you're at the site, check out the author's credentials.)

Gheorghe Muresan! want to smell like me?
More Gheorghe Muresan!
i still can't find the snickers commercial where he's desperately trying to nail a half-court shot backward while saying "for the kids." that was the absolute best commercial ever. EVER.

Another free batch of music downloads, this time from Tooth and Nail Records
I think you need to sign up first, but for 30 songs, that sounds fairly good.
FYI, Anberlin might be my favorite non-popular rock band. i seem to always go back to playing "a day late" on my player.
---
i skimmed chris liu's latest entry.
and in response, one of my "mini-goals" for a future house(assuming i make a decent amount of money) would be to get a dog AND a cat. the dog's gotta be like Ace in Batman Beyond, and black(basically a silent badass). the cat, well, gotta be a tabby. i always loved both types of pets, as opposed to people who just like 1, and always wanted to know how'd they get along in the same house. not all cat-dog relationships are hostile.
and i have to get them at the same time when both are kids, so the dog doesn't straight up rip the cat up upon sight.
---
gonna end this entry by posting up a short list of artists on my mp3 player; probably will miss a couple:
12 stones(cd)
alter bridge(cd)
anberlin
bush(cd)
chris tomlin
creed(cd)
downhere(cd)
dragonforce
guilty gear xx#r soundtrack
guns n roses
jeremy camp(cd)
jewel
joe satriani(cd)
lifehouse
lincoln brewster
linkin park(cd)
megaman 2 - dr. wily stage 1(haha... it's catchy)
metallica(cd)
michelle branch
pearl jam(cd)
pillar(cd)
relient k(one song)
sanctus real(cd)
santana
the presidents of the usa(cd)
timothy james meaney(cd)
tree63(cd)
u2(one song)
basically, lotsa rock, rock-pop, classic rock, instrumental rock. and christian.
the pearl jam are 6 songs from their "ten" cd, one of their earlier, more successful cds. which is why i sincerely believe lifehouse, pearl jam, and creed do not sound the same; vocals are the same, but the guitar work is just too far apart.
pearl jam guitarwork > creed guitarwork > lifehouse guitarwork.
that being said, mark tremonti was not allowed to cut loose on creed.
alterbridge guitarwork > pearl jam guitarwork. although what type of guitar style you like listening to is of course preference; mark is a lot more high shredding on high distortion.
enough talking; i gotta eat.
stay tuned...

2 roads diverged in a wood...
if you think about robert frost's famous poem, there is a benefit to taking "the road less travelled;" you run into less traffic, and so you can cruise through with the greatest of ease.
but if you take what Jesus said about taking "the road less travelled," you realize it's not necessarily faster; the road width is thinner, and razor-straight; there is significantly less room for error.
(you see, if you go by what Frost said, then as a Christian, you should run into less conflict from others; but if you think about what Lord Jesus Christ said, then you realize all the conflict comes from yourself; it's not the multitudes of people which hate on you for being a Christian, it's how you react to it; nobody's taking the steps along that road for you; only you are)
i believe that what is popular is not necessarily wrong(though most of the times it is) or right, but many people simply do what is popular because everybody else is doing it, without thinking about the inherent value(or lack thereof) behind what they do and think. it took me until i was deep into college ie my 2nd or 3rd year to realize that.
---
niners, eagles, bears all win; saints won by the heroics of bush; it's a good sunday for football.
(i hope now drew bledsoe knows to keep his mouth shut about taunting defenses to go ahead and blitz him; i saw him repeatedly get hurried or get his passes blocked against the eagles, which is probably the most rush-happy defense in the league)
bears might be the best team in football as of right now.
yankees and dodgers are both knocked out; it's a good week for baseball.

this is the vw commercial i was talking about
fyi, if you visit the website listed at the end of the commercial( v-dubsrock), not only can you take a look at the vw which enables you to plug your guitar into the vw, there's some guitar lessons on it; cool eh?
fyi, dunno why anybody would want to buy a car JUST so they can play their electric guitar whenever they want; not saying it's unuseful, but if you want to play anywhere you want, there's the mini amps. and if you want to play with quality sound, there's of course the other amps you would buy.
i guess this would only be useful if you liked playing in parking lots. a LOT. or on camping trips; should've mentioned that.
or if you want to try ghost-riding while playing fenders and ibanezes, heh.
