God must be "somewhat" nice to me today for putting pistons at heat and jazz at lakers tonight on tnt. i say somewhat, b/c i still have unfinished homework. always. have. unfinished. homework. it's not due on friday, but still...
UC Davis basketball loses against Stanford on Tuesday
on tuesday after seeing the espn ticker announce the score, i told jerm and he responded that he had seen the game on tv. i asked how the aggies lost the game; poor offense, no defense, no boarding? he responded that they just got beat in every way possible. it would be nice if UC Davis actually recorded the box score for that game so i could find out exactly why they lost(and i would not be surprised if it was rebounding, because the UC Davis team looked like a bunch of midgets last time i saw them play on tv with no big men), but eh.
this guy needs to get laid, or something equivalent. i hate nintendo fanboys
to pun that video, "wii are not amused." 5 days awake? HUH?!?!??

i know chris really likes dwyane wade and so a while back i remember visiting his xanga to find it crowded with the dwyane wade commercials where he's interviewed and quite candid about various aspects of basketball and how he feels. i like wade out of the three from the same draft(melo, lbj, wade), but out of the 3 superstars' commercials as of late(the lebrons[i got it wise, lol], the wade interviews, and the new melo one), i really like the carmelo one. it's based on the fact that he developed a reputation as being a buzzer beater.

i love how the piano music in the background complemented with the rising musical strings(cello or bass?) volume makes it all dramatic; the best part is the end with 2.4 seconds left on the game clock when you see george karl(well, actually you don't see his face so it could've been any actor posing as george karl) draw out a play for carmelo: a screen off of a curl to the outside, and he remembers back to when he practiced that play in practice, executing it with perfection(the repeated cut between the coach drawing the play and him executing it in practice is a very nice cinematic touch with the background music). he gets up from the timeout, stretches a little, and you hear him saying "why wouldn't i want the last shot, when i know i've already made it." really nice commercial.

IMO there is no joy or sadness in celebrating a birthday. it just means you spent 1 more cold and dark year outside of your mother's womb, and are 1 year closer to "coming home." society only makes it feel like it's a happy thing because of age restrictions upon what you can do, like driving, or buying alcohol, or getting social security.
---
if you've ever looked up michelle branch's info on wikipedia(i like her as an artist) and used it as a stepping stone to learn about her(such as the link to the maxim interview), i think you would be impressed with her attitude about various things, compared to most other contemporary artists. i think for instance, when she was interviewed, she said something like "can we stop talking about my clothing and talking about my guitars? i'm a musician, not a fashion designer." another would be that whenever she comes home, she can't listen to any station that plays her music; the stuff on the radio now sucks. so she says she listens to oldies stations. also grew up on metallica, guns n roses, etc(that always gets a thumbs up from me). states she has the humor of a 17-yr old boy; she wouldn't hesitate to watch spinal tap or dumb and dumber if someone asked her for it. actually gets turned on by the guy WHO'S IGNORING HER(if only...). and finally, the best one; "i can't hang around with girls; i'd rather hang around with guys; girls are so insecure. guys you can just tell fart jokes all day long."
too bad she's married, so the total population of available girls like this in the world is 1 shorter.

ykno how a while back i linked to a youtube video showing kg on some show in taipei?
elaboration: here's his blog when he was in taipei, apparently promoting his adidas shoe.
it's interesting how more and more people are entertaining the idea of kg being traded seeing how postseason success has eluded him and father time is catching up to him. nobody questions how good he is, how versatile he is, but because he has never been able to go deep into the playoffs due to lack of complimentary players, people would love to entertain that "what if" question a lot. that is, if he had the proper support, is his individual greatness enough to win a championship? i'm hoping he at least gets a chance to reach the conference finals at least once more during his prime. he deserves THAT much.
just not as a laker. oh please no. *imagines the number of bandwagon fans in california coming out of the woodwork saying "i'm a diehard lakers fan i love kobe & kg and well um, um, well i don't know anybody else on the team, and i rarely watch any games, but i love the lakers!"*

hate to say it, but the guys at espn have it dead on; the nba eastern conference sucks LIKE CRAP at the current moment. it's even worse than in the previous years because now there is no more than 1 eastern conference team at the moment who can give the upper tiers of the western conference a challenge; in the past 2nd year, you had indiana, detroit and miami. in the past year, detroit and miami. now, its, ???
the only team that looks good is the orlando magic as of late. howard is just crazy. and getting better.
cavs have some better records, but they just lost to the knicks at HOME.
and pistons still aren't quite the good team they used to be, although they have been winning more games, it's due to their offense.
but things in may and june are a lot more different than they are here. maybe things'll look up. i greatly like and have high hopes in orlando, chicago and detroit.

scott skiles quotes(this guy's smart):
"Basketball is like religion: many attend, few understand."
"My problem would not be 'can I play in the game?' It would be, 'can I get up the next morning?' That's one of the reasons I stopped playing. I got tired of crawling to the breakfast table the next morning."

kinda funny how some nba teams try to address uniformality, but it's kinda lopsided; i repeat; what's wrong with wearing headbands and rubber bands and tights, but ok about wearing wristbands pulled up to your upper arms or elbows? it's not like you're letting players wear jewelry out there. and these things are supposed to help; i used to wear headbands just because i thought it was cool, until i tried playing on a hot summer day without it, and found it slightly aggrevating how sweat kept coming down my face and almost into my eyes.
(of course a lot of this curiousity of mine stems from why utah has something against that, and the recent ben wallace incident with skiles)
i WANT to say more on the subject about how by taking away these things, you are not allowing ben wallace to play with the swagger that defines him, that attitude that allows his defensive game to be so awesome, but i really don't know how i'd go about it, and would probably just sound like a fool(i mean, yea i guess to some degree, but it's still a piece of cloth). but i'll try.
i guess to make things "short", the reason why i loved ben wallace so much (at least, when he was a piston), is that yes, he does block shots, rebound, occasionally come up with steals and such, but that's not why he's one of my favorite players in the game; marcus camby comes up with similar stats, there's players which average more blocks per night, etc. it's the combination of that and his swagger that just seemed to exude from him. you know that weird aura that seems to come off ray lewis whenever the ravens' defense takes the field? ben wallace is like that. it was the afro, the swagger, the bell, the way he carried himself in the locker room, his giant hops, everything. it's sorta like his whole body is saying "i'm going to shut you down, and there's nothing you can do about it." ben wallace played off of this type of feeling, and if you didn't like him, you would've just thought he's another Bad Boy in the wrong timeframe. but i believe those that really like him don't just like his shotblocking and rebounding ability; they like that swagger that comes off of him. take away that feeling that he has(i recently learned that while he does have a bad right wrist, it's not that reason why he misses so many free throws; he's honestly THAT amped up during the game; that's how intense he feels on defense), he's probably not going to play with that same fire. and the same intensity.
edit: forgot to write that why ben wallace feels negative against pregame music is that he used to keep an ipod chock full of hardcore hip-hop songs to play hooked up to a loudspeaker in the pistons' locker room before a game to amp everybody up. INTENSE.
edit2: oh crap; biedrins had SIX BLOCKS!!!!?!?!? i remembered watching the kings at warriors game and biedrins went for a LOT of swat attempts. maybe he'll become a good shot blocker real soon.

this is why i don't like seinfeld and friends:
cause when they have an all-white cast,
it actually isn't that surprising
that something like this eventually happens

anybody wanna watch this movie with me during winter break?
i wonder if it's gonna suck, or live up to the previous ones.
fyi, my personal favorite rocky movie might've been the 4th one.

interesting website
upload a photo, view who you look most like, post your results on your website or whatnot.
i WOULD do it, except i don't have a camera. eh, whatever.
