expensive, but really good guitar effects pedals(hopefully i'll get these eventually one of these days):

ibanez ts808 tube screamer - gives good lead tones, makes your guitar sound like joe satriani - ~ $170 (fyi, do a search, and you'll find that this specific effects pedal is indeed one of the most coveted effects pedals)
digitech whammy - like having a whammy bar/tremolo bar w/o screwing up your guitar's tuning - ~ $200
