tekken

its kinda weird; i'm trying over and over to play the mishimas, but i just can't take them to the next level. basically all my problems stem from the fact that i can't technically use them; i know what to do, but my left hand doesn't cooperate well.

so i'm trying all sorts of weird stuff recently and seeing if it improves my style.

i used to just go with standing up; but since i'm kinda tall, and they use the huge cabinets at the mu, i found that sitting down helps a lot; my crouch dash improved a bit there... so now i'm a lot more brazen in walking into the pool room to take a chair if there's none in front of the tekken 5 machine.

but i still can't do a dewgf... so i'm experimenting with other stuff recently...

i got a fingersleeve for my left pinky, so that it doesn't graze the metal pin next to the joystick and give me a blister as much...

maybe i'll get one of those things at rite aid which holds 2 of your fingers together; that could help me, since i use my ring+middle together...

and then maybe a nike xl fingersleeve for my left index... so that it's less likely to press downward... and simply forward

if i'm on the left side, i usually also have to curve my wrist a bit more outward too.

i'll have to play eugene sometime soon... i know he wants to play me, and it's reciprocal like that...

besides, i would like another person who plays mishimas at the mu as one of his mains and can crouch dash(i'm the only one; eugene did hint to me that he did want to use the mishimas but can't)

now excuse me while i go spend the rest of my friday afternoon wisely...

studying a bit,
meditating on what i should do,
playing a little tekken to stay unrusty...

fyi, b4 i leave

i plan on writing about these biblical topics in my journal sometime soon; i don't have the bible verses right now, but if you believe the bible to be true, well then, wisely interpret what it says as what it says

-did jesus really resurrect on sunday
-perhaps some stuff about predestination

lemme give you an example of how bored davis residents are

there has been a recent stir among davis these past weeks...

so strong a stir, it's divided neighbors, threatened lives...

with enough time, it will crumble the foundations of this wonderful country...

am i referring to whether hurricane katrina aid is sufficient? nope

bush is evil? nope, though we got that quite a bit around election time last school year... stupid berkeley influences; i don't exactly like bush either, but please don't shove it down my throat; besides, we're in ca; that automatically means democrats always win here.

whether the white sox will win the pennant? hah, i wish... davis is sadly not very sports-loving. and the stupid kings and laker fans don't understand how much gs is gonna roll over the west come november(fingers crossed)

no, sadly folks, i'm talking about MEASURE X on the davis ballot...

basically, measure x, if passed by davis voters, will allow the construction of a trader joe's next to south davis' nugget market(it's basically the davis equivalent of whole foods market)...

and i seriously can't believe all the stupid signs that are popping up all over davis are due to this...

because OH NOES! trader joe's chickens that hatch eggs are enclosed off from society! so that means the eggs are SAD eggs! so we can't support measure X! plus, it'll create competition from loyal nugget market goers! now they can't decide whether to buy imported frozen mango chunks from chile at trader joe's or homemade cheese made right in a goat's stomach from nugget! cause we ALL know we need organic food to survive!

etc, etc, etc...

such stupid riffraff.

but then again, maybe the politicians are just taking after the cops here...

i mean, when you can arrest a woman for snoring too loud, or ticket a car for being illegally parked AFTER it's gotten in a traffic accident, what else could you do?

this is davis after all... even the tumbleweeds don't blow too well; they're too sad to move(i've seen some in davis)

vf4 series: kg

kg refers to doing a normal standing roundhouse kick then cancelling it in mid-animation(hence kg, for pressing kick(k), and then guard(g)); the characters who can do this are:

akira
kage
lion
sarah
wolf

there may be more characters who can kg.

the point of doing kg as an offensive tactic is that when the opponent reads an immediate attack-throw game aka nitaku, they can avoid it by doing E-DTE-G. or in certain cases, ARE. kg will force a successful evade to occur(because the cpu will read that you did an attack before they evaded, hence the fast, wide evade will occur), but your character will be free to move. a successful evade is actually SLOWER in recovery; it just doesn't seem like it because the character moves a FAR distance, dodging the opponent's attack.

now the advantage your character gains is not a lot, but if you quickly buffer a high throw, any normal high throw, it is guarenteed; they can of course, key in throw escapes, but that's a different story.

kg-> throw will foil EDTEG and ARE by forcing the opponent to essentially eat a delayed throw, since your throw will come out later, which gives it a very good chance of delaying the throw til the throw escape window has passed.

but you may wonder; couldn't you just do a delayed throw instead? yes and no. this could work vs EDTEG, but kg-> throw can foil ARE, which is its best use.

ARE is all round escape; it is done by doing an evade, then quickly doing a crouch dash. the unsuccessful evade, though slow, CAN be cancelled into a crouch dash, which will avoid high throws. if the evade is successful, the crouch dash will not come out at all, and instead, your character will be free to move and punish.

kg gets around this by forcing an ARE user to remain standing and eat the throw.

case in point, this is why vf4:ft akira users do kg-> spod at large advantage; the successful evade recovery's been increased from vf4:e, giving a guarenteed spod if the akira buffers it perfectly after kg.

kg is also sometimes useful as a defensive tactic; it will foil high throws, while still giving you enough time to block any mid-level attacks. will of course lose to delayed throws.
vf4 series: reverse nitaku

the theory behind this defensive tactic is that you're aiming to beat your opponent's throw attempt; because throws will whiff regardless of when you input your striking attack, you will connect your attack with a 25% damage bonus(counts as mC). with some luck, it will not only beat all throws, but a possible delayed attack attempt if your opponent was trying to hit you out of an unsuccessful dodge(for 50% damage bonus instead). of course, if your opponent tries an immediate attack, you will get countered, but that's actually a fairly good risk to take IF you read a throw from the opponent.

this is partially why you see akira players use spod on large disadvantage, particularily in response to a tick throw attempt; yes, you can go for df,df+p or FC,f+p+k, which yields higher return, but it's a lot slower than hitting out the initial p+k+g component to spod in an instant. speed is of the essence when attempting to beat a tick throw. besides; spod as an mc yields 71 pts, and on MC yields 76 pts, which is not bad. now, if you can do k+g:g consistently though, go for THAT instead; it requires no joystick motions, so it's easy to get out in an instant, it yields much better damage, and is a lot safer too.

so... with that in mind, you might want to consider in a like-minded vein what reverse nitaku moves to use with other characters to beat tick throws; ie moves w/no more than 1 joystick input. of course, if you're not going against tick throws and aim to reverse nitaku, you generally have more time to react, so go for your strongest combo starter.

good reverse nitaku moves vs tick throws:
sarah: k,p or d+p+k,k; both are good, but the k,p can be done faster, but will not hit crouchers, and does less damage
jeff: f+k
lau: df+p+k; will probably lose to delayed strikes though since it's so slow
jacky: p+k,p
pai: k or db+p; k's faster by a TAD, but db+p will give better damage; both can be ducked though
lei: uf+k+g; qcf+p+k won't beat EVERYTHING(although against lau, it comes pretty close :D)

and one more off the top of my head:
kage: df+p (FC,df+p is better, since it WILL beat delayed strikes consistently if you can get it out, but df+p can be done a lot faster)

i can't believe pastor danny's moving on

... out of msm possibly...

it's like he's saying "thanks for taking over and stepping up, now seeya"

... just when i was starting to get to know the guy...

... like actually talked to him...

-----------------

btw broomballing was kinda fun, although it feels weird running on thin ice instead of skating...

heh, afterwards, some of the guys went to in n out, me and eugene had a long chit-chat while the other guys ate...

what did we talk about?

the usual stuff that pertains to us two that seemingly no one else in the church cares about...

basketball, football, hockey, and oh yeah, tekken and fighting games in general.
