i can just hear how much whining western conference fans are gonna make about how eastern conference seeding isn't fair.

that being said, every team sport(baseball, football, basketball, hockey? soccer?) has never done it by the top teams directly. it's usually the top teams in each of the two conferences, whatever the conferences may be.
