but once i'm out of college for a year or two, i won't have internet at home, so i'll have a bit more free time to work on that.

i also checked its reviews at harmonycentral.com and i like what i see; one of the cheaper ways to connect an input/output to your cpu and it bypasses most of the electronic equipment on your cpu, which eliminates the buzzing sound which would come out during recording or audio(guess why i would want to buy THAT?)

and when you compare it price-wise to all the other usb audio interface things and see that it's like 40 at fry's and everything else's 70 plus, i think you know why this is a good buy.

sports all around has been so weird lately:

kings(since i'm forced to watch them and their DREADFUL commentators whenever i want to see bball) lose to pacers and twolves despite their recently good status (both were great games btw; fairly close. the indy crowds were just letting artest have it, and kg put up 37-10; not like the usual 20-10-ish stuff he did. i really like kg and his unselfishness, but he really has to decide whether he needs to carry the twolves on his back offensively by scoring more and get more wins, or get others involved, and make them better in the long run, but lose more.

heat are doing really good. so when they visit detroit, this'll really be a measuring stick for each team. detroit has seemed to lose that fire that they started with in the beginning of the season, while we are seeing miami at their best as of right now.

george mason beat north carolina... (gm has the #1 defense in ncaa this year others have said; i'm impressed)

blake beat rafael nadal... (this is sweet; some of his shots were just crazy; now if only he could beat roger federer)

wbc: korea beats japan, but us loses to mexico, so japan plays korea AGAIN, and hands them their asses(msm's not going to be happy). and oh yeah; cuba beats the dominican republic. and while the game isn't over, i'm pretty sure japan's going to win unless cuba pulls out a miracle. yep, matsui shouldn't have listened to george steinbrenner(i think i spelled his name wrong), and played; would've gotten a free medal or trophy or ring or what not.

aaaand... to's in dallas next season, NOT denver. i think this'll be interesting, b/c bill parcels really does not take crap from any player, and will throw it on the player. i was watching sportscenter, and they were interviewing all these players that played for him, and you get the sense that he does NOT take crap from any player. i know we aren't supposed to wish bad will towards others, but this will be interesting to see if TO actually sticks his neck out or not(there's probably a million ppl who wish he does... and then gets it cut off).

btw, be glad i'm not using xanga, b/c @ the frequencies that i put up new posts, i would constantly be near the top of every xanga thread i subscribe to.

not really related, but i wanted to say something about the nba... a lotta ppl say so-and-so player's great for the nba.

i want to say that i think larry brown is great for the nba.

there's a million things i could say about him; his simple, but effective gameplan(play the right way, be unselfish, play hard on both ends, share the ball, have fun, etc), but i'll concentrate on one aspect for this post:

he loves and respects the players that he plays with or against.

i mean, the guy had every right to talk down to stephon marbury. the guy does not try to play selflessly, he does not try to play defense, etc. he's basically a streetballer(and unlike allen iverson, who is also a streetballer, but meshed well with brown for the most part, does not try to work with brown) and when brown benches him against the hawks for the 4th quarter and the home crowd boos marbury, he feels so bad after the game that he speaks up and apologizes, and states that he'll try to work something out("no player should ever be booed by his home team" or something to that extent).

let's not forget the 20 second timeout he called when there were about 10 seconds left game 6 against the indiana pacers, and it was clear that reggie miller was going to retire without a ring. the minute miller goes out, brown calls time, then instead of drawing up a play in a huddle, walks into the middle of the court and proceeds to clap in respect of reggie. total class.

he also did something similar when he was a coach at philly when mj played his final game ever. called a timeout, proceeded to clap.

oh sure, he's not perfect. i think the way he coaches offense could use a bit more work, despite the right idea being there. but i think he's a more positive influence for this nba than other ppl give him respect for.

i used to wonder why galatians used the term "schoolmaster" to describe the use of the law(old testament) until jesus came, knowing that it was ultimately useless:

Galatians 3:24-25 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster [to bring us] unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.
But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.

But for some reason, TODAY i got it:

It is a schoolmaster, b/c like a teacher, it can't save us, but it can convince us what is right and wrong. Once we realize what's right and wrong, then we realize our need for a savior.

Sometimes I wonder; how DO i get these things in the bible that those around me really don't seem to get? Is it because i GET things in the bible when i read them? no. in fact, i probably spend more time than others when i read the bible; i tend to think i'm a slow reader.

I think it's a combination of two things; God giving me a love and hard concept that the word of God is really important, and him showing me things everytime i read. alone i don't discover these things. even when i do read more than others, it's not because i DISCOVERED ideas; God revealed them to me.

so i leave 2 verses for you to chew on relating to me not discovering these ideas, but God revealing them to me:

1st Corinthians 2:14
But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know [them], because they are spiritually discerned.

1st Peter 1:20-21
Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the Scripture is of any private interpretation.

think about that the next time you wonder whether or not to dive into the more obscure parts of the bible that you have never dived into, like the prophets or revelations. don't act they're too boring or too hard to study; if you need help, i gladly offer what services i can.

when you actually line all the characters up by rank things look fairly interesting; this game is actually pretty balanced. though dr's still a game with some random wins due to high damage combos and the crush system, ultimately skill plays more of a deal than the player.

i'm still surprised that steve is ranked so low(NiN, the korean tk5 2005 champion who uses steve as his main character, is playing tremendously using him). steve can't possibly be that low. maybe not in the A class, but definitely not that bad.

i'm taking a look at the up-most bracket and looking kinda confused that jin, asuka and baek are there. and how is the 1st time paul up there? weird; i don't think they've addressed his linear attacking problems, and he still seems like a high risk/high reward character. i can't comment on dragunov, lili or aking though, cause i haven't really seen them in action. but the korean dr champion, Na Rak Hof uses paul as his main character.

so i'm guessing why there's so many in the top tier is b/c this game's become a lot less abusive, sorta like virtua fighter 4:final tuned... to a lesser degree. so just because a character has problems doesn't mean they fall b/c of them. still weird though seeing the top tier bracket.

from what i hear, jack-5's supposed to be the best char in the game. that's crazy. meh; i'll always be an ewgf-ing jin player first and foremost, so i'm gonna keep dj as my main. might wanna start learning hwoarang though.

hate to say it, but kings are starting to look REALLY good as of late.

bonzi and artest are both players that get it done on the boards and D, and it's starting to really make the kings better in 2 aspects of the game they've never really been before.

fyi, i never realized how good breaded fish fillets topped with chunky salsa and pickled jalapenos mixed in the salsa could taste.

considering how many ppl use gmail now(i have an account, but haven't really used it yet)

i'm not quite yet completely sold on the ideas that the article has. but it wouldn't be too bad of an idea to save any important messages on your gmail account to a single mht file(click save as and bring up single file) and delete any important messages you have saved on your gmail account if you're going to keep those messages past 180 days.

it is so hard for me to say "blessed be the name of the LORD" right now, as Job did in chapter 1.

how he even managed to do so, and not blame God for all his problems as seen in chapter 2, i will never know.

i'm not saying i'm in a position where i want to curse God; i just find it so hard to say "everything's great" right now. because, isn't that what saying "blessed be the name of the LORD" basically is?

the bible is quite strange sometimes; when something bad happens to us, that is our own fault to blame. when something good happens to us, it is all of God's doing.

we know that God has his purpose with all of us, to prosper us and not to harm us, as stated in Jeremiah 29; and if he sees we're not going with his plan, he pushes us the other way, even when he knows it'll just crush us emotionally inside, knowing the best for us. BUT IT'S JUST SO HARD TO SEE WHAT HE'S TRYING TO DO.

i think i know why sometimes we feel like it would be easier to follow God back then. the way the educational system and modern-day society works, is like a long, logical chain.

elementary school -> jr high -> high school -> college -> grad school -> career -> marriage -> some more career -> kids -> death

and when something goes wrong part of the way in that supposed chain, like bad grades in college, or impending bad grades in college, that chain appears to collapse. life's over. we're done.

10 years are but a second in the eyes of the LORD. but to us, it seems like eternity, especially if you feel helpless.

i guess the reason why i'm writing all this down, is because i believe in fate. i've read enough of the bible to get this sense that God really has known everything that will happen before this world will end. to somehow believe that we have free will to do what we want and that God's just occasionally stepping in or stepping back is wrong. look at it this way; God predicted what will happen to the world when it comes to an end in specific detail in Revelations. to suggest free will is more prevalent means that these people that are talked about can just try to not do what is said and it won't come to pass. to suggest that God can only predict the end times and not everything that will occur in between now and then is rubbish; it was only not written down because there was no need to.

that doesn't mean we shouldn't try to DO things. animals try to do stuff too. but it is more God than us.

what God wants us to do though, is not get caught up in the things of this world. it can feel extremely hard in tough times. but we need to see that God intends to do something useful with our lives, and never intends to give us more than we can handle. it is by the realization of this assurance in Jeremiah 29 that we can say with firmality, "blessed be the name of the LORD."

the more time i spend with my bible verse scrapbook project, the more i see the truth behind Proverbs 30:5(a verse which states that all of God's words are pure)

you see, you can say, i like this verse. but the verses behind that verse and after it give it that much richer meaning. and often times i'm staring at a photocopied page of my bible trying to pick out the exact verse i wanted to cut and paste out, only to realize how many more i should've done... if i kept this up, i would end up just photocopying the entire bible.

i wanted to see if the kjv bible had a verse saying something along the lines of people just picking and choosing what they want to hear(ie not reading the entire bible to get the story).

but the best i could come up with was one of the verses below.

(and any verses which state that all of God's Words are truth and important, like Luke 4:4 and Psalm 12:6-7)

i'm not going to elaborate on the last verse i put up; i've said reasons why syria is of utmost importance rather than jerusalem during the beginning of the church, etc.

wanna shocker? look up "alexandria" in the bible and see if you find anything positive regarding that city.

and we all know christianity's attitude towards rome in the bible.

my "little" project of photocopying, cutting and pasting bible verses i like into the little diary i have's going along just fine; looks like in no time i'll be able to actually carry this thing around and start memorizing when i have nothing to do. of course, when i add more verses, i'll have to let it aerate during the night, so that the glue doesn't stick the pages together.

back then, anybody in any pro sport would've signed up if given the chance. when the us dream team in bball was formed, every superstar signed up to play.

now, the attitude's not so out there.

i'm of course, referring to the us baseball team. it's still a good team, and i admittedly don't know a lot about baseball in general. but i still get the sense that this team, like the us basketball team 2 years back, had a lot of people not choose to play.

seeing how i was really relucant to actually write in it:

photocopy my favorite bible verses from my pocket kjv bible, then cut and paste them into the diary, so i can carry them with me whenever i want.

sometimes i wonder if my thoughts and beliefs make me one man standing against the rest of the world

and i wonder; how can i be sure what i believe is the absolute truth? seems almost nobody around me believes what i believe. they're open-minded enough to listen to me, but they wouldn't stake their lives on what i believe.

then i think; if what i believe is true, the evidence WILL be out there. and not as a drop of dye in an ocean, but rather salt in the dead sea. evidence from one man's mouth will back up the words that escape from another.

i find it strange that nobody else but me seemed to notice that canaan remodded their church before i came back by adding a "jesus fish" design to the front of the church.

i'm specifically talking about the 2 small trees in front of the main church building, behind the handicapped parking spots.

you see, they added some small shrubery to surround each of those trees; those tiny plants are enclosed off by 2 intersecting brown sticks, causing a resemblance of the "ioxye" fish, like the ones seen on the backs of cars.

sorta like a young, taller, lighter ben wallace; can't shoot at all, but his rebounding and defense were truly incredible.

Ok trying out this Blogger-on-MS-Word thing

Ok, trying out this Blogger-on-MS-Word thing.  With a couple of random posts on my mind.

I’m trying to understand why the heck Isaiah Thomas is going through all these stupid trades(the latest being getting the Franchise), and I’ve come down to only 1 viable conclusion:

Isaiah Thomas wants to give Larry Brown a heart attack.

Getting him, so that he can force a trade for a better player doesn’t really work out.  Who are you going to trade these shoot-first, pass-later, I-don’t-wanna-defend players to?  ARE you going to be able to trade them?

How To "Write" a Term Paper

Y’kno, the sad part is that the above is totally true of not just how people write papers in college, but study for midterms.  How the hell did I study much better in high school?

This sounds crazy, but I believe football gives a MUCH better exercise workout than basketball.

Despite the fact that basketball is considered good aerobic exercise and football is not.But only at the non-professional level.  Like recreationally.  Or like on Turkey Bowl.

Because everytime I play football, I get tired.  Everytime I play basketball, I do not feel the same amount of burn(not that I don’t get tired, but I really don’t feel like the air is sucked outta me).  And I’m one of those people who believe you HAVE to play defense HARD and crash the boards everytime if you want to win.  I’m not saying bball sucks; love it more than football(though I love football a lot too).

I used to wonder why this is so; now I don’t; lemme try to explain what I think’s going on.

1. There are a LOT more wide receivers who play this game when you’re playing it at a non-professional level.

Let’s face it; how many times have you played football and had 60% of your guys play as offensive linemen?  Even a designated runningback is pushing the envelope.  And how many defensive linemen?  Get the picture?  The majority of you guys on offense are playing like you’re T.O. and the majority of you guys on defense are playing like you’re Tim Brown.  Only 1 guy is not playing WR on offense consistently, and that is the QB.

And we all know what wide receivers like to do; run until you get open.

2. There’s a lot more open space to do what you want as a wide receiver than a perimeter player can do in basketball.

BIG, BIG point.  That’s why often you hear stuff like “1-on-1 coverage” when it comes to dissecting the defensive weaknesses of a football team.  That field is so big, that you’ll NEVER be able to contain your man all the time; defense is basically reacting to your opponent, not creating the situation, and with a big playing space to do it with, you’re going to have your way; if you have a 1-on-1 situation, eventually he’s going to get open.  That’s why good defensive football teams know how to zone defend their field better, and blitz aggressively.

With basketball, there’s a limit to how far out and around the person you’re guarding can go.  So you’re going to be running around a lot less.  Even if he can jack up 3s like nobody’s business.  Even if they got rid of the 24 second shot clock, and *arguably* got rid of the half court violation, there is a limit to where he can end up.  It’s a lot more probable for you to go 1-on-1 on an opponent in basketball if you’re playing defense and come out on top.  The only way for this to be possible is if your opponent could literally shoot from anywhere, and they got rid of the half court violation.

3.  Also, in basketball, even if you catch the ball, you still need to shoot it into the hoop.

That is a huge difference, because in football, as a WR, if you catch the football, you did your job; granted, you’d like to catch it in the end zone, but part of the job in football is advancing the line of scrimmage, and if you catch the ball in any fashion as long as it’s forward, you did your job.

Basketball does not give you points for making a good pass.  Therefore, you can still do your thing on defense even if they caught the ball in deep.  Or hit an open man at the perimeter.  The ball still has to go through that orange loopy thingy.

So there you have why I think this way.  Basically, it boils down to “it’s much harder to cover on defense.”  Cause once the qb says “hike,” basically everybody and anybody is running around like crazy.

I will concede though, that perhaps I may get more tired during football than basketball b/c my legs seem to be more red muscle than white muscle; lemme detract from my rant to explain this.  For those of you non-science ppl, in simple terms, there are 3 types of muscle in your body; white, red, and cardiac.  White muscles are anaerobic; they require no oxygen, can move VERY fast, but tire out QUICKLY.  People who have more of these muscles in their legs can burn you on 100 m sprints, but die in mile runs and marathons.  Red muscles are aerobic; they require oxygen; they tend to move VERY slowly, but they don’t tire out.  I believe I have more of these in my legs; I SUCKED running short sprits in jr high and high school.  But I was a monster in mile runs are arguably cross-country; I think I would consistently end up near the leader of the pack; best mile run in jr high was 6:20.  And then there’s cardiac muscle; this is the ultimate; it’s ridiculously fast, and NEVER tires.  Sadly, this muscle is only confined to your heart.

I say this because people with more red muscle in their legs SUCK at doing liners.  I felt like I wanted to throw up(literally) after I did my 1st liners in high school.  And non-professional football is basically that; a lot harder liners than basketball.  But I guess for the people who have more white muscle in their legs, they may feel the opposite what I feel.

that is, either i spend more time studying tekken, and usually screw the time i have to study over, or spend not enough time, and then lose games i shouldn't because i can't do simple stuff like backdash into sidestep into combo starter consistently.

*in other news, i ACTUALLY watched olympic curling on msnbc; i wasn't watching to make fun of it, but the rules still confuse me a little; i guess it's a little like "darts on ice," where you're not always aiming to hit the bullseye, but a specific area in order to get a specific score. and you can knock your opponent's rocks out of the bullseye. but supposedly you get penalized if you knock some of yours. all the funniness from the game comes from watching those 2 guys sweep the floor in front of the rock trying to stop/slow it down. but otherwise, it really is darts on ice. strangely enough, the game was team usa vs team great britain*

but as for the nba all-star game...

all i gots to say is this...

the east would not have come back and gotten a win unless they played team ball and defense.

i said beforehand that i would like to see how good the east could get if saunders put all 4 pistons in and bosh and let them play. he put in pierce, but the effect was essentially the same. closed the gap, then made with a commanding lead. again, team offense, hard defense.

ykno, the strange part is that if dumars chose bosh over darko, we mightve seen 5 pistons play. then again, they mightve just chosen 4 again; remember that they didn't choose tayshaun, who's very incredible.

the 2 consecutive blocks by ben wallace got me up on the 2nd one. (i actually tuned in pretty late, so this was one of the few highlights i actually saw)

lebron and wade had some good brilliance. i really liked lebron's putback.

and vince carter should be ashamed of missing that reverse alley-oop from ai off the glass.

i'll end this post w/something i remember reading on espn:

the international team(most of the west all-stars are not usa ppl) would easily beat the americans(most of the east all-stars). but the pistons would beat the international team.

well, i was partially right about who would win the 3 pt contest...

i had guessed to eugene that chauncey and dirk would be the finalists (1 out of 2)

dunk contest was KINDA impressive i guess... but there was some holes...

i think josh smith deceived the crowd by having that tape get put down beyond the free throw line. i know you know what i was thinking when i saw that; OMG he's going to take off from there! if he did do that though, it would've been 50. instead, he got an unimpressive 41.

and does anybody else feel that andre iguodala should've won that dunk contest? i mean, i know a lotta ppl were pulling for nate robinson, spud webb and all.

not to say nate didn't have some good stuff. loved it when he took off over spud webb. and his 1st dunk was good too. his last dunk would've been awesome, if he actually started from the place he originally wanted to do it from, and got it WITHOUT 14 TRIES!

but man, aiII's brilliance with the ai to ai was great. and the behind the back was awesome too. there were actually a LOTTA behind-the-backs this year.

i watched part of this game, mainly the last 6 minutes of the game or so.

grizzlies played a superb defensive effort. there are in fact, the last time i checked, the leader in lowest fg% allowed. with a lotta great role players who can really contest your offense like eddie jones(miami really shouldn't have given up this guy; i considered him a phenomenal defensive player and decent spot-up 3 pt shooter), bobby jackson, mike miller, shane, etc. they're a good team.

i think kings did not really play good defense(those it didn't flat-out suck); there were a couple of open 3 pt shots down the stretch that the grizzlies took that just couldn't make; they prob were that tired from rejecting all those kings shots. on the other hand, almost every shot the kings took had like 2 guys on them and from the perimeter.

if you watched the game, you would've understood why i hate the kings announcers. giving the grizzlies defense no credit but rather "kings are not making their shots, bad offense, blah blah" and then sitting in silence without ANY commentary whenever kings got a shot blocked and the ball is turned over(game was a close one). there's more other things that they did, but i guess you would've had to watch(and listen) to understand.

btw(been meaning to say this since the trade went down, but never had time), artest is a good pick-up for the kings, but i consider that the kings will not become an elite team defense-wise just because of artest. remember when the kings had this guy named "doug christie?" supposedly was one of the best perimeter defenders in the league. that didn't make sacramento a great defensive team, did it? and if you consider that they would, then you've had to factor in more good role players on that team that left, like bobby jackson(one of my fave ex-king players). not to mention with a frontcourt of peja, cwebb and divac, you were just ASKING to be pick-n-rolled to death. indiana, for instance, is a tremendous defensive team, but that is because all 5 guys have talent on that end, want to play it, and are all getting at you for all 48 minutes. ditto w/san antonio and detroit, and this year, memphis.

to answer whether or not fear is allowed in the bible

we all know about verses which state we should fear the LORD.

but then there's Revelations 21:6-8(the word "fearful" is found in verse 8):

The conclusion, thus, is simple: God dislikes fear; fear that is relative to our fate. This is different from the fear that we should show towards God. The reason is simple; fear is inherently tied to unbelief or a lack of faith.

i personally smirk a little more knowing God does not want us to fear anything but him.

yay... all star game is west all-stars vs the pistons :D

(i wonder if tayshaun feels left out; heck, the coach and everyone of the starting 5 is there except for him! i also wonder if the pistons there will get booed by the houston crowd. well, from me, here's to tayshaun making the all-star reserves next year)

i really like the bulls. i feel badly that they're struggling so much this year compared to last year. you'd think they'd do fine w/o curry, but apparently he gave this team confidence. i loved wednesday night when they took the nuggets to school. and i thought about something scott skiles their coach says. tim legler sorta referred to this: all the guys on this team are so young, that skiles just sticks to basics, and never really goes in depth with plays. but i remember something he said last season, "these guys are so great, i needed to show them which way to go." one of the greatest things that stuck with me last season was their defense; 1st in fg%. i think that's one thing coaches love; when you're young, but are just so open, listen and do as they say. you see that in young role players who play defense extremely well; guys who could care less what their point percentage or points scored is. that's partially why i love guys like chicago's tyson chandler and detroit's tayshaun prince. and i know larry brown loves channing frye on new york.

ykno how defense and rebounding wins championships in the nba? here's what i think is the best way to measure a team's defensive strength. take the number of possessions the opposing team has had in a game. count the number of turnovers forced or defensive rebounds that your team in question has gotten. now divide the 2nd by the 1st. fg% alone will not measure how good a team's defense is(surprise! i learned this sometime a bit back), because if your fg% is 50%, but you a committing a lot of turnovers, then you're not taking care of the ball right. like in the game of detroit vs philly, detroit shot horridly, and philly shot great. so why was motown leading by so much? offensive rebounds and turnovers forced. philly did not take care of the glass, and motown often knocked the ball loose before philly could hoist a shot. points allowed is obviously not the best way to determine defensive strength b/c we can just slow the game down and play half-court. but by counting the number of turnovers created and defensive rebounds and dividing this number by # of possessions your opponent had, you determine the % of defensive stops your team made vs the number of shots that the opponent made or times they crashed the glass better than your team.

finally: the body of christ isn't about us picking and choosing which church or fellowship we want to stay at. i think a lotta christians approach church like that. "this place's worship doesn't fit me," "i don't like how these people behave here," etc. my bible study group actually got into a little discussion about why they actually decided to stay at msm. while ultimately we have to pick one fellowship we want to stay at most of the time, we shouldn't shun certain churches because the people or culture there is different. you think something's different, and don't like it, then make a change, don't shun it. there's a reason why the body of christ is made of all types of body parts, not all legs, or all arms, or all eyes. i'd say more, but i think you get the idea. if msm is filled with guys who are mouths in the body of christ, then i see myself as one of the few eyes in the church. quiet, but always musing, always observing and thinking.

(come to think about it, there is no one church i can honestly say where i completely fit in; maybe that's cause of my shy demeanor, but i believe this wholeheartedly. but like i've come to tell myself, it should never be about me, it should be about us, and how God can use me to edify the body of Christ)

near the beginning of the season, hines ward demanded a pay increase much like t.o. however, when push came to shove, he ultimately came back, had a long phone conversation with the steeler's head coach, and basically said all the things that basically boiled down to "i want to be a steeler; if you give me a pay increase, i'm ok with it, if not, i'm ok too; things will work themselves out." like a team player.

contrast that with how t.o. behaved. (to make a long story short, he considered himself above his team)

and look where things have gotten ourselves.

hines ward is not only a member of the 2006 nfl champion pittsberg steelers, but he is the mvp of the game(and rightly so i must say, after watching him nearly carry the steelers' offense on his back and saving an average performance by big ben and an average performance by the steelers' defense).

he deserves that mvp trophy as much as anybody i can think of for this super bowl off the top of my head.

and it's not b/c he says mj's better; it's the way the rules of the game are compared to back then. it was more physical, harder to score points.

makes me wish i actually got into nba bball seriously while i was still in jr high, and not like starting senior year in high school; nbc played a lot more games than abc did, and all those great players were still playing back then. i could've learned a lot more from actually analyzing everything mj and scottie did.

well, didn't everybody? (my mind was totally in football mode this sunday; big ben is now the 2nd youngest player to make the super bowl, and has made the super bowl in just his 2nd year in the nfl *i think*)

how can you top kobe's 81 in this day and age? i dunno.

but it's funny; ppl watch nights like these, and think that kobe is invincible.

then you watch the games where his team's trailing against great defensive teams, where he gets pissed like he did last night, and then proceeds to hoist roughly the same amount of shots, and none of them fall.

i know that great teams will never do this, and i think that in the future when kobe has a better supporting cast, *hopefully* he doesn't ever do this(or maybe does just to lose so i can mock him and all the laker fans which support him, for thinking this is how you win games); but for the record, right now it is pretty intriguing to just check on espn.com and nba.com occasionally to see him just take off against defensively-weak teams.

keep in mind that if you watched a transcript of the shots he took, almost all of them were in close; a number of them were at the free throw line. only 7 3s were hit for him.

so THAT is why he can't do this stuff against defensive-minded teams; they'll have great big men to contest him when he gets in close, and they'll have great perimeter defenders to prevent him from driving in the 1st place; as a result, he'll have to take a LOT more outside jumpers, which just doesn't fall.

because everytime i've seen her serve, the sound of the ball bouncing off the court barely sounds at all. no speed.

nevertheless, her all-around game in tennis is astounding.

big ben, the bus, and troy are all too good

bettis just mows over defenders when he runs forward. and he provides excellant additional pass protection for ben during pass plays.

this year's super bowl's gonna be interesting; steelers and seahawks.

team by team stats are really interesting

detroit's perimeter might be THE best in the game; while detroit is easily tops in the game, followed by san antonio, and we know both teams are atrocious on the defensive end, it's interesting to see how they stack up.

look at fg% of the opponents. san antonio has the lowest, but detroit falls somewhere in the middle. this is partially due to the fact that marc stein has noticed that the 2 wallaces haven't been as strong as in 2004 when they 1st got rasheed; you'll notice in a lotta games, power forwards have been having their way with the pistons. that of course, doesn't mean they win em, but it's a major sight of concern.

does that mean the pistons suck on d? no... look at their 3 pt % of their opponents; it seems almost like a role reversal; detroit is probably the best perimeter defending team! although san antonio is still top 10 here. what surprised me was the lakers placing 1st, but then again, they had that time where they had a huge streak, and kobe IS one of the best perimeter defenders. quite honestly, i think detroit has the best perimeter defense; you got tay, but i started to see the light how good billups was last year, and rip is SLOWLY improving in that area as well.

granted detroit is still one of the leaders in points allowed per game, but realize that if you constantly bring the ball up court slowly and play half court, then those numbers can seem a bit inflated. however, detroit leads in point differentials per game; +8.86. so they in that aspect, are the best team as of now.

like i said, there's more interesting observations you can make, but i'll let you do it yourself; it's more fun that way.

here's some non-pistons, non-spurs observations:

phoenix is a much better defensive team that people make them out to be.

gsw actually plays WORSE defense compared to sacramento; sad, but true. gsw's perimeter defense is SLIGHTLY better, but not by much.

miami might actually be a lot better at defense than what i originally thought; they're right behind detroit in 3pt%. and their fg% is 6th. quite honestly, that makes no sense, b/c we all know miami to not be very good in defending, especially on the perimeter. but then, they seem to on average, only win by 3.82 pts; that means there's cases where they play exceptionally well, and other cases where they don't.

of course, numbers don't tell all the story. b/c it's a common fact that houston isn't REALLY a defensive team, but more like a half-court offense team.

the day after mlk day...

some of the christian ppl who preach w/their signs on campus were at it again...

their signs read something like:

no racism, no sodomy, honor mlk

or something like that...

opponents stood next to them holding a sign saying

"mlk does not equal indifference"

(i presume they were opponents, b/c one of them was smoking)

and i was just shaking my head saying to myself

"man, these opponents of these christians just don't get it"

there are two sides to christianity; a side of grace, and a side of justice; the 1st says i'm going to love you regardless of who you are, ie equal love, and demonstrate agape love. the 2nd says i'm not going to accept your moral wrongs and compromise my standings on what is right and wrong(ie i want you to become something you're not). both are complete opposites, and yet completely true of jesus.

mlk demonstrated jesus' teachings perfectly by living out BOTH. he loved all people, not just his own brethren, but the white marchers who supported him, even those who opposed him, which was why he did not strike back. but he recognized the evils of discrimination, and refused to back down from what he believed in, even laying down his life to do it. he was just a preacher, but God turned him into one of the most iconic people of the 19th century.

unfortunately, all the world sees is only a fragment of the side of grace that he lived. they forget his incompromising will towards what is right. maybe mlk, if he was alive today, might not be as outspoken against sodomy(God gives us all different battles to fight in), but i know he certainly would not support it.

funny how you don't need to be black to appreciate mlk, but the ones that still appreciate him fully and aren't black are christian, IF they sit down and think about how he epitomizes a christian.

concentrate on verse 29; if what this says is true, then that means once God has saved someone, they CAN'T fall away. which means... those who are saved, but later deny their faith and die without taking back their renouncing... were not saved to begin with. why else would jesus say in the gospels,
"i never knew you"? did he say, "i once knew you, but you fell away?"

also think about verse 26; do you think that refers to a spiritual Israel, or the fleshly Israel? wouldn't it be lying if it referred to the Jews? hence, are we supposed to expect that there will be a massive revival of Jews?

steelers at colts was a game decided by mistakes

that's what i felt.

however, there was something i remembered while watching espn last night, to the extent of this about indy's defense:

their defense relies more upon the talent of each player, not actually them being a team that blitzes.

this was true, as jerome bettis just ripped the colts and ate time up on the clock by doing so.

that supposed int by troy polamalu but was ruled an incomplete by the challenge smells of conspiracy; there was no way that was counted an incomplete; it's quite possible that they did that to hopefully give the colts the win.

and as for vanderjagt, he has simply no excuse; they were playing in the rca dome, at home, in an indoor field; funny to watch though all his team's efforts go to waste.

like i said, the game was decided by mistakes, not by what each team did right, first the supposed conspiracy. then when steelers supposedly have the game, instead of taking a knee to seal the win, bettis loses the football in an attempted-run-in, causing a runback to midfield. then vanderjagt loses on the punt.

edit: kudos to big ben not only for his strong performance during the 1st half of the game, but for stopping the potential int to td at the end of the game. i guess defense really does win championships, even if you're not supposed to play it.

us men's bball - point guards

ok, figures i might as well; as we all figured out, international bball is not quite the same as nba bball; a lot more emphasis is on the perimeter. i thought i'd over the next few days post some good players that would help make up a good team. to be honest, some of my stuff might read like the entry one of the espn guys wrote up(read it for fun if you want to get your juices flowing as well).

anyways, today i thought i'd list 4-6 guys good for the point guard position.

ideally, the point guard should be a guy who can distribute the ball offensively. being able to hurt from beyond the arc's very important, but that can come from your 2's and 3's.

jason kidd: the only remaining pure point guard so i guess we gotta list him. he is getting KINDA old, so he can provide good leadership on the court, and ppl will listen to him. all-around, he simply makes people better on offense; you don't need a lotta shot creators when he's on the court, just good spot-up shooters. and his defense is pretty good too. only weakness might be that he's not really that dangerous one on one; still good, but not great.
to best complement him: just surround him with good spot-up shooters or guys who don't need the ball to create(which is also good, b/c the spot-up shooters often tend to be better defenders than guys who create in a lotta cases, making your team good on offense and defense)

chauncey billups: obviously i'm a pistons fan, but hey, we gotta list him. he's not a pure point guard, but he has shown with the experience he's gotten with larry brown and flip saunders that he flat-out does everything a good point guard's supposed to do almost better than anybody else(except creating shots for others; jason kidd does that better). excellant perimeter shooter when the clock's winding down to bail guys out of tight spots, heavy so he can back guys down, good ability to create shots for others, always cool-headed, making him a great leader on offense, and on top of that, plays great defense. no real weaknesses i can think of.
to best complement him: put a spot-up shooter on the court; it will double his already good offensive abilities. or a defensive player to lockdown on the perimeter. remember that this guy like kidd can fastbreak, so athletic guys are gooood.

mike bibby: not a kings fan, but he used to be good when webber was around, reason being he had someone to run around before catching a pass and the pressure to make a shot wasn't all on him. he's one of the few kings who actually TRIES to play defense(though with the numerous games i've watched him, he still doesn't lockdown), and he is unselfish making the extra pass, so he would not be a bad fit.
to best complement him: a big man who can score w/the ball in his hands, and a 2 spot who can defend well.

chris paul: didn't want to list all all-stars or in the case of billups, strong potential all-stars, and chad ford listed him in his recommendations, but i am kinda stuck as to why he's good, only that he's one of the few players which are making the hornets look decent this year.

dwayne wade: guy can't shoot beyond the arc, and at the int level, ppl will just crowd the lane if you drive, limiting his mj-esque slashing dunks. but he is selfless on the offensive end(which is good; don't want all guys on the us team who seriously think they're the team's #1 scoring option), and very fast, which should free him off his man a bit and send a lotta double teams at him, giving his teammates wide open 3s. good defensive abilities thanks to his athleticism, though i think you'll need to prod him to really work on them to make team us shine.
to best complement him: a 2 guard who can defend well so that perimeter d doesn't go down the pipes when he's playing, and guys who can spot up for 3s well so that hopefully that lane opens up a bit more for him to operate

i sound like i'm being very redundant; sorry, except for billups, i'll admit i don't really look at the point guards(or maybe most of all the good pg's except for billups and kidd are int? parker, nash, etc); maybe when i tackle the 2s and 3s as well as 4s and 5s it'll be a bit less redunant.

is rasheed THAT good of a 1-on-1 post defender?

i gotta ask this because it's a DUH that rasheed defends better in the post compared to ben wallace. ben is of course the king of help d, but i've thought about how sam's told me once he thinks rasheed is the best 1-on-1 post defender in the nba.

i mean, i know rasheed is all-around a great defender. no question.

but could he really be THAT good? thoughts; hit me up on this one. what does he do that makes him so much better than say, kevin garnett, or tim duncan?

he's one of the few nba players who can defend duncan straight up, according to the espn.com pistons spurs recap, so would that put him up there? we all know how devastating duncan can be on offense(he rarely has an off night).

because if it is true, then i maybe am underestimating the true potential of the pistons' d. you've got arguably the best perimeter defender, best post defender and best help defender all on the same team; that's pretty hard to top defense-wise. no wonder they held 5 opponents in a row to under 70 in 2004.

i've been meaning to post up some of my bible notes

some from xmas service, some from my previous bible study that i held w/the guys in my group, cause these were good thoughts, but i'll do that tomorrow. promise.

yesterday's "message" that we discussed was good though; "grace vs truth." essentially, the two components of jesus; his mercy and his just, holy side, and how these 2 qualities are almost contrasts, but yet fully part of jesus.

but to give you something to mull on in anticipation of tomorrow, i'll point out that the church of today has grown soft; they're too concerned about the upholding of the grace side of being a christian, and not about telling the truth, even if it hurts. look at proverbs 9:8. in fact, there's a lotta good verses telling about the value of rebuking; hit up "rebuke" on any bible search engine. everytime someone accuses the church of doing something wrong, it's always "why can't we just get along? what happened to the love that christ is all about?" you fool, christ's love can be see in two different ways.

"i don't want to hurt them" is a poor excuse for not being real; the truth will ALWAYS hurt. if you care so much about them, you will be willing to sacrifice the relationship between you and them to make the relationship between them and God that much better.

so my quest for a good kjv freeware continues

b/c "bible plus" is good, but does not point out the italicized words.

"bible database" looks good, but you can't install it onto another spot on your cpu, enabling you to carry it on your usb(which was my intentions)

so i'll be trying e-sword tonight and seeing how that goes; hopefully it'll work on usb drive, have the kjv, and the words will be italicized.

i wonder what's more likely; paul pierce getting some quality help, or him getting traded? both seem improbable. i like pierce as a player(as a celtic); all-around good player, and hope he doesn't get traded. though it's not exactly a match of titans, i'll enjoy watching him take on aix2 tonight. not going to be too concerned about heat and sonics; won't be able to watch it, and we know the outcome already.

(maybe all the "leastern conference" jokes during the reign of lakers and spurs came b/c of the atlantic; seems all the jokes we hear now are about the "titanic" division)

i would've picked the steelers to win regardless, but the game lost a lot of its intrigue when that happened... i will admit though, that it looked like the bengals were still going to win this... they were 17-7 at the half. i guess i should've watched the rest of the game, to see that the bengals would get no further points.

i still think colts are going to win it all because their d has stepped up to supplement their already ferocious offense, but all the followup matchups as of right now look intriguing. plus, the regular season's always quite different from playoffs. and like they say, the champs are still the champs until you dethrone them. patroits have so much talent and experience, and a lot of the key players from last season, that until someone runs them over, they're still the team to beat. i will definitely keep a close eye on the steelers and colts matchup, and the patriots and broncos matchup.

too bad nfl playoffs are only settled in 1 game each round. allows for i think too much randomness to occur. i like the nba's format for playoffs.

speaking of the spurs and pistons, i crack up when i think about what gregg poppavich said during xmas day; "it's important for the jv teams to keep the audience attentive until the varsity teams show up" or something like that. heh heh.

keep track of the pistons' run compared to the bulls; this should get interesting if they keep this up

although, in the end, it won't really matter if pistons don't win it all; remember that the reason pistons were doing this in the 1st place isn't to show the world that they're something without larry brown(although, i would love to see that, just not if that might put their finals run at a tremendous risk); they just want homecourt advantage playoffs and beyond. i think they'll get that.

that game has got to be a dagger for bay area fans...

on top of mickel and foyle being out(there goes most of the warriors' D), troy gets injured, and right at the end of the game, when the warriors had a chance to win it down by 2, stephen jackson makes the improbable 3 pt play and suddenly the pacers won by 10

but to dagger it in, there's a possiblity that davis is injured... if he is, i have a gut feeling the warriors will miss the playoffs again.

that said, here are some things i've noticed...

diagu really is becoming a quality inside player on both ends of the court; i enjoyed watching him keep the warriors in the game with his inside post play(unlike all the other warriors who were trying to jack up 3s) and good help d. also had sound rebounding. if he's given a few more years, he could really become something. i'm sold.

that play where baron split the d and dunked it was sick.

as you know, part of why i admire indiana is because of jermaine o neal. another is *partally joking*, they are the only team which seems to have white guys who can defend and rebound(but it's really something i am impressed by). but another thing you have to be impressed by...

rick charlisle has to be one of the most underrated coaches in the league.

remember last year when they seemed to have one of the best chances to win it all, and then that ugly brawl happened? they still made the playoffs, even with their best players out for most of the season. they beat the celtics, which no one thought would happen, to bring it all the way back to detroit.

today's game, i thought was going all indiana because of jermaine o neal... until i realized he was out with pneumonia. and this was when i saw the scoreboard and saw that indiana was up by 20. so you've got artest causing havoc again, their best post player is out, fred jones fouled out which should have sealed the win for the warriors, and they still won the game by 10.

i really don't think enough is said about rick charlisle; yes, i think detroit became better when they got larry brown instead of rick, but he's still one of the best coaches in the league; he just does not seem to accept losing as an option; one way or another, you are going to play defense and rebound if you're on his team, and you are going to win.

i would put rick charlisle up there in today's nba of top coaches with (no order) greg poppavich, larry brown, phil jackson, pat riley, *and possibly now* flip saunders. *don't ask me to rank them, they're all great coaches; i think in order to really rank them correctly, you'd all have to have them coach the same team, exact lineup, for the same time period; they're all brilliant in their own light(i personally think that phil jackson is NOT number one though)*

the only problem is that rick charlisle doesn't ever REALLY seem to take off offensively for his team. but i love the effort he makes everybody on his team play. it is really something.

you should all try frozen berries or cherries on cereal... yes, i said frozen.

i tried this during winter break when mom had frozen blueberries in the fridge and they weren't bad... i'm hooked.

less costlier than fresh berries, which are pretty seasonal and berries are pretty costly to begin with(plus, i see no real reason to eat fresh berries any other way than straight up), and adds a nice sweet tang to your morning food. so you don't have to go looking for sugary cereals to satisfy your sweet tooth.

plus, i'm assuming you already pour ice-cold milk on your cereal, so it's not like eating frozen berries are going to make your cereal any colder or untolerable during winter.

pistons are doing great; but the year they won the championship, their bench was huge for them. the wallaces seem to be playing a LOT of minutes which makes them more injury-prone, so you got to wonder when darko's finally gonna achieve his potential, or are they going to trade him away for a quick fix.

west coach: poppovich(props to avery though, and deantoni for preaching defense and holding the fort w/o amare)

forwards: duncan, dirk(w/mavs being the only team remotely close to detroit and spurs, are we really gonna put kg in there?)
center: camby(mvp performance on the defensive end; something china hasn't really gotten from yao yet)

east coach: flip(no contest)
guards: chauncey, iverson(kinda shaky about ai, but then i'm not sure about dwade in his place; maybe rip, but he pales compared to mr. big shot)
forwards: lebron, jermaine(hard to make a really good argument here; east forwards don't seem THAT dominant as a whole)
center: ben(b/c shaq hasn't played that many games yet)

not really TOO computer-savvy, so i gotta ask this question; can you record music(.wmw's, .wav's, and .mp3's) onto dvd-r's and then play them back on a regular cd player? they seem to be able to store a LOT more stuff on them(4.7 gb, 120 min compared to 700 mb, 80 min for a cd-r). granted, i don't have any movies on my computer, and i realized ucd's cpu's cd drives are cd-rw, not cd, so i could take a load of crap off of my memory-laden laptop.

the music on my laptop's about 300 mb, so it's not too bad. easily coverable. and the abandonware and emulators i'm hoping to copy should easy be covered with a 700 mb disc(abandonware is typically small; zipped, each game doesn't even reach 1 mb, except for maybe a few). there's various other video and music stuff on my cpu, but nothing too huge.

my virtua fighter matches in total, though, are quite huge; i think i have just slightly over 1 gb of match reel play. a lot of it is akira and sarah players, which are my fave characters.

i will have after today, 4 chapters of revelation left to go. strangely enough, i consider it just barely grazing the surface, although i've probably spent 1 hour each chapter. that's because i've probably only cross-referenced using two kjv bibles. when i start trying to look up the historical facts of what has occurred, and using bible software to quick-search similar words, well, that might take a lot longer, especially considering my winter break's almost over.

revelations, daniel, ezekiel, isaiah, jeremiah, and various other prophetic books in the bible; now there's where the fun's at.

b/c i'm writing this at the library, i don't have the notes i wrote down this sunday during sermon and sunday school. there's notes i usually write when i'm following the speaker, but see something in the kjv that others don't see in the niv or nasb or nlt or *shudders* the message. but for the sake of not interrupting class or sermon(cause you know how if i brought up the kjv, i would probably have to bring up my beliefs about it, and the evidence, which would open another whole can of worms and eat up all the time during the sermon and sunday school), i keep quiet, but let my mind wander, and see if the verses i look takes me anywhere else.

have you noticed an increase of the use of "the message" bible? i have. dunno how prevalent this is at canaan, but it seems to be a lot more common in college. basically, the premise behind it is that something god's message just isn't hitting the people like the other bible versions are. supposedly, the bible needs to be in OUR language for it to really hit home. that's why it was created.

i have problems with it. lemme try not to get into the whole kjv thing. or how the scriptures they use are corrupted(i'm pretty sure they used the 2 corrupted versions of the greek manuscripts accepted by the roman catholic church). lemme just try to explain it in another ways why i feel bad about it.

if you've ever read it, have you ever gotten a sense that they are cheapening the word of God? it seems like it. because they're using idioms common to our language, and not theirs. you can look for yourself; look on the side of my webpage for a link titled "bible search" and try "the message" bible for yourself. try psalm 1 in the niv or kjv. now try it in the message. do you see what i'm talking about? try other verses. basically, you get the feeling that they concentrate way too hard on getting the bible "in our commonday language" that there are chunks of meaning taken out of the bible.

now, i realize some people aren't as blessed as me in the intellectual sense(i'm not trying to brag in what i have saying that it's more than it is; i acknowledge that seemingly one of the unique gifts God has graciously given me is love of the scriptures, b/c i can pore over stuff from revelation and daniel and be fascinated with it, whetheras some people will get bored or confused to death), so they might need some self-help interpreting and reading the bible. I'M OK WITH THAT. what i have a problem is, is that often people take this travesty as the actual word of God.

i'm very sure the kjv is quite readable; it's not as ancient as people believe it to be. when i first tried reading it, i thought it was going to be chock-full of thee's and thou's and thy's and the like. the sentence structure may take a sight bit to get used to(reads something similar to what yoda of star wars sounds like sometimes), but nothing too hard.

but i guess when people believe in a meaning-for-meaning translation over a word-for-word translation, then we'll believe in different versions eh? strange; if i recall, when a court wants to translate a dead person's will to another language so that the descendants can understand, they use word-for-word translation(dynamic equivalence), so that the meaning of the dead person will not get mixed with a possible meaning from the translator. after all, Jesus has harsh punishments for those who tamper with the word of God, adding to it, OR taking away from it.

(i'll make this short, cause i just opened one specific argument); critics make the claim that you can't translate every single word perfectly into another language, and they are correct. even the kjv writers knew that. without adding any words, the bible translated would make no sense. however, you can see the honesty of the kjv translators, because when they added words, ALL of them are in italics. none of the words which other bible editors have added or taken away are specially marked in any sense.

something about game 7 finals losses must really bring out the best in teams

cause detroit's soooo gooood this season, it's really boggled my mind. they're on pace to finish as possibly one of the best records in nba history. i did not expect detroit to beat san antonio by 15 pts and hold them to 70. yes, manu wasn't there, but the key was in the boards.

it's really sad that detroit and san antonio get no respect. that people prefer the drama of kobe and shaq over team play.

(heh; i think people seriously need to play some arcade fighting games vs other people and read some of s-kill's articles on playing to win; then they might get a clue the way i have.)

and with the fact that when i watched the heat play, and they didn't really seem THAT dominant against the lakers, i would not be surprised if detroit brings the rape when the heat visit them on thursday.

but i'm expecting spurs to be ready after january, so it's not gonna be a cakewalk. after all, pistons were like that last season.

but for now, it's really exciting to see detroit almost mow over teams at will during the regular season.
