some noteworthy things gathered about possible future plans for guitar worship at CTCC from talking to david:
-concerning the debate between starting with an acoustic or an electric, the plus of an acoustic is that you can play it anywhere, and it requires much less equipment to use. the problem is you're going to be shafted during sunday worship if you ever decide to try helping out there, as you need to buy a special pick-up and need to splurge more $ on batteries. also, an acoustic's slightly "fatter," if you have short hands, it's not as pleasant. plus side of an electric is that you have it easier playing on sunday worship; no need to buy batteries(unless if you're like me and like using distortion pedals), and it's thinner(short hands rejoice), plus, it's easier to slide your fingers along the fretboard(acoustic's fretboard has thick metal bars, so it's harder on your fingers). it's basically much easier to play than an acoustic. downside is the equipment goes beyond the guitar; you need a cable and a mini-amp. and if you want to use a pedal, you need ANOTHER cable, the pedal of course, and batteries or an AC adaptor.
-decent guitars are $300, really good ones are +$1000.
-a lotta ppl wanna learn to play guitar; i'm surprised about this. david himself, grace, joyce, joe, clement all wanna learn. bob, you've got some teaching to do ;)
-having ALL the ppl who wanna play guitar all get guitars might be hard; money might be a problem esp with our taiwanese parents(WHAT! you want spend $300 on gui-ta?? aiyo?!?) a suggestion would be to have all the youth pitch $ to get a youth guitar(since you're all pitching in, you can might as well aim for the $1000 one haha). now to do this you could start fundraising and say that the money will go to helping the youth group become more passionate about leading ppl to worshipping God. who knows; maybe someone's parents will bring $ that's sufficient to get one.
-concerning that youth guitar, it's basically the idea that you have 1 single guitar in the youth group room(i think we're using the farley garage now?!?), and anyone in the youth can use it. like a room piano. circulating it around the room might be kinda hard though. but it brings up interesting thoughts. or, just have ppl come up to the guitar and play a song or something. when they're done, have them sit back down, someone else comes up. and thus instead of 1 worship leader on friday playing 5 songs, you could have 5 different youth each playing a worship song for 5 songs. thus, it's easier for ppl to prep for worship(only 1 song to do), and easier on time(as i know high schoolers think they have so little time).
-david also brought up the idea that when we do do this, you could worship in the sanctuary instead of the farley garage. which would be nice. (coughcough*buyalaptopforpowerpointpresentations*coughcough) it might take a lotta time, but it'd be cool.
-downsides to having a youth guitar and not every1 owning their own guitar, from chats w/bob: can't really have every1 practice at home, where its easiest to break the learning curve barrier to make strumming and chord changing, and basically developing a pattern easy.
